Hey i wanted to buy a dog?
You really need to do your research on breeds before you get a dog. There are several good books out there to help with breed selection, but always keep in mind that some individuals of that breed will not fit the stereotype. You need to make sure the individual dog fits your personality and needs, which is essentially more important than the breed. Don't count out the mixed breeds either. Many of the animals I see at shelters were given up because of divorce, moving situation, apartment, etc. and not due to a behavioral problem (there will be some though). I would suggest going to your local shelter and checking out the dogs they have there. You're likely to find something that would match your lifestyle and personality and you'll pay a lot less for it and have the satisfaction that you saved a life. Any way you go, you need to meet and spend time with the dog in person before making a decision and if possible, do a trial period with an animal so you know for sure if it will work out best for both you and the dog.

PLEASE don't rush into a purchase of a dog. PUT in at least the same amount of time and effort to match a dog to your lifestyle as you would BUY a car. This is a living, breathing being that will be relying on you for EVERYTHING.
You really haven't given us enough information to help match you to a breed that would do well with you. jmo

Labs and Boxers make great dogs and they're generally very smart. Boxer's do tend to dribble spit after they drink water, but are pretty clean other than that. As for Golden Retrievers, they don't really have short hair and they shed like crazy. Plus, the pure bred Golden Retriever I had was dumb as a rock. He was sweet though.

It's best to research dog breeds so you know what you're getting into, and to find out what would best fit your lifestyle. Also, make sure you go to a reputable breeder or check out breed rescues, there are many many good dogs and puppies waiting for a home and whoever is fostering the dog will be able to tell you a bit about his/her personality.
