I am by no means an expert, however, I think this is when they are trying to show you affection. My chihuahua does this when she is very excited to see me or wants to play.

Awww she is saying hello and I love you. Dogs do this when in a pack as a greeting. It's really a form of acceptance she is showing to you.

A dog is one of the most loyal friends you will ever have. She misses you and is very excited to see you. That is her way of showing affection.

Many dogs (like my own) that are extremely close with their owners experience separation anxiety when you are gone. It is only because she loves you SO much!

My dalmatian does that too. I was wondering if it was either to get rid of sleep from the eyes or to put her scent on me.
