It started along his spine, as a brown'ish line, but now most of his back is becoming light brown'ish, and is distinctly visible. His ears and his tail are also developing this color, and I just want to make sure it's not an illness of any sort.
Oh, and he is a mixed breed: Pomeranian and a Griffon, and no, it's not that he needs to be showered :p Also, he's almost always indoors, and doesn't go out a lot - could that be why? Or is it just that he's a mixed breed?
My dog was a nice shade of white, but now his hair is becoming light brown'ish, WHY?
Most dogs change color with age. Look at his skin to see what color it is. His skin is probably brown like his coat. Being an inside dog has nothing to do with his coloring. All of my dogs have always been inside dogs! You can also go to your local pet store and get blue shampoo that whitens white coats. I use the bluing shampoo on my gold dogs to brighten them.
Good Luck!

Since Brussels Griffons aren't white, it's likely the natural coat color coming in.

Probably getting different because the sun. The sun can bleach your hair and a dogs hair isn't really different except for sensitivity. Don't worry, but if it is a dramatic change you should go to the vet for a check up

poms and griffons are both brown..... so you will have a brownish dog... which is nice

its not an illness. Some dogs just change colors as they get older

Since neither of the breeds you mention are naturally white, I wouldn't be too concerned. In fact, I think I would have been more concerned about him being white in the first place.
Dogs will sometimes just sort of change color as they age.
I once had a White German Shepherd that at the age of 4 developed an apricot colored "saddle" on his back. I later learned that it is common and a bit of the throw back to the markings of the a black and sable GSD that people are used to seeing.
For what it's worth anyway.

If he is young, its common. Dogs coats gradually change from pups to adult and the even from adult to seniors. Also the griffon is probably the dominant color gene in him and is just now coming out on the dog.
Hope it helps
