pits have REALLY sensitive skin. It could easily be food related. Check to make sure your dog's food does not contain by-products, corn or wheat. Corn and wheat are the leading cause of food allergies in pets. Also, it's flea season, I've seen many animals this year lose hair over scratching and biting, or just an allergic reaction to a flea bite. I'd check the food ingredients and make sure you stay on top of a flea treatment. Could be hotspots or demodectic mange, I'd visit your vet to have him/her checked.

It could be some type of allergy or it could be mange. Either one is easily treatable. There are 2 types of mange: demodex and sarcoptic. Demodex is the non-contagious kind, while sarcoptic is the equivalent of scabies in humans. You need to get to the vet to find out what's going on and how to get it fixed.
Why do pitbull dogs lose their hair?
This is a very common problem in Pitbulls. It is believed that Pitbulls, probably due to mass irresponsible breeding, now as a majority, have compromised immune systems. Now, in my response I will assume there are no differences in environment from any other typical breed of dog ie good diet, well taken care of, routine vet care/vaccines, flea prevetative etc. So, assuming all factors are equal in this comparison to other breed of dogs it has been very common to see Pitbulls have Demodex Mange(mite) which causes the hair loss, scaling and crusting. This can be directly related to a lesser immune system. The demodex mite normally lives on a dog's skin and is always present, but when the immune system is weak or compromised and is not keeping the mite numbers in check, there is a proliferation of the mite which can cause wide-spread hair-loss, crusting and scaling. It can be a long process to get under control. It is not zoonotic nor can any dogs gets this type of mange from a dog with demodex mange. It is purely self-limited within the individual dog.
