Seriously time to take the little guy to see the Dog Dr.

fleas or dry skin caused by poor diet. getting a food with more linoleic acid in it would help. Eukanuba low fat (pink bag) works wonders. hard to find though. eukanuba in the green bag is just as good, but there is more fat in it.

Well, it could be he needs to be seen by a vet to find out what's wrong and treat it. How in the world would anyone know what is wrong if we can't see the dog. It might be fleas, allergies, hot spots ........... Poor quality food can cause skin problems.
Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. He can have fleas or a hot spot. If he has either you should bring him to the vet to get Frontline. If it's a hot spot he will prescribe a medication for it. It can also be the beginning of FAD (Flea Allergy Dermatitis) which Frontline and an anti-inflammatory can fix. Please don't buy flea control products from any store because they won't work and can do more harm than good. Either way have your vet check it out.

Sounds like a flea allergy. See your vet for some frontline and possibly antibiotics. Flea allergies usually worsen with age, and it only takes one bite to make your poor dog feel miserable, so even if you haven't seen fleas it doesn't mean they're not there

This sounds like an allergic reaction, most probably to fleas, though it could be an allergy to foods, environmental allergies something different in the house.
There are also other possibilities, it could be mange, or hotspots, or it could develope into hotspots.
Most certainly you should take your dog to a vet, when a dog has an allergic reaction this severe, they might need to have a steroid or cortizone shot.
Good luck

I would take him to the vet. Could be a lot of things. I had a dog who had food allergies once who had this, but it could be other things, also.
