Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I had my dog for seven months and have grown attached to her she even sleeps in the same bed with me. my mom has told me that the dog hair will have a bad affect of my unborn baby is this true.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I think it's ok unless you're allergic to it.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

i don't know but wouldn't you rather have a baby? Report It

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Its fine. That is just a mom talking. I have had 3 babys and Im pregnant with my 4th and have always had 3 or 4 cats and a dog, and everyone here was born just fine and healthy.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

not unless u are allergic to the dog.

the dog should be okay but may get jealous after the baby comes.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Your dog is fine - I have 2 cats that shed like crazy and my baby is fine. She loves my cats and they love her too!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

No! I've always had dogs being pregnant and around babies.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

That is 100% untrue. Call a doctor if you are concerned.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Yes , I think its safe while you are pregnant. But, remember this, as an infant, a cat took my breath away and I had to be rushed to the hospital. The cat was simply after the milk, but he sufficated me. Just be careful with pets around your infant. They don't mean any harm, but sometimes things happen.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

No, it's not true. It's an old wives tale just like the one that says if you touch an animal while you're pregnant the baby will look like the animal you touched.

The only way dog hair can be harmful to the baby is if you have an allergic reaction to the dog hair and usually it's the dog's saliva that is the allergen.

Don't worry about the dog, they are great for being a friend through the pregnancy and when the baby is born and grows up with the dog, that dog will protect the baby from harm.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

You should be fine, just make sure when the baby comes you don't leave the dog and baby alone in the same room together.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Totally safe as long as you stop letting the dog sleep in your bed right now (buy her a dog bed and teach her to stay off the furniture) and start taking the dog around kids so she gets used to them. The dog hair is no issue....just a pain because when the baby starts crawling, the baby will have dog hair everywhere! :)

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

well. im 32 weeks pregnant, and have 5 dogs. dog hair is all over the couch and ive been around these dogs the whole time ive been pregnant. ive had a very uneventful pregnancy (which is a very good thing) and my dr says that everything about the baby is perfectly healthy and normal. so no, i dont think having a dog will hurt anything. just be careful if you have to pick up poop or anything. its the bacteria in that, that could hurt either you or the baby. good luck w/ your pregnancy!!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Not true at all - i have 2 dogs and 2 cats, both my girls are very very healthy and so am i and this unborn baby!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I just had a baby in December and my husband has two dogs that he has had for like ten years. I was afraid of the same thing you are but he would NOT part with them because he is also attached. They really pose no threat to you or your baby, unless you are allergic which you aren't. Don't worry about it after your baby is born either, it is very rare to see pet allergies in newborns. Thats what my pediatrician said. I had a lot of concern because my dogs are disgusting, they have hair everywhere, actually one of them is almost bald.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

having a dog is perfectly safe during pregnancy. so is almost any other animal for that matter. the only thing Ive heard is if you own a cat dont change the litter box.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Your mom is probably concerned about the dog licking your face. As long as the dog doesn't have a disease that is contagious to humans, you'll be fine.

And of course it's probably best that the dog doesn't lick your face shortly after going to the bathroom.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I have 2 dogs, a pit bull and a min pin. Had them with my first and now my second. There is nothing wrong with having a dog while pregnant.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Yes, it is completely safe to have a dog while pregnant. In fact, studies show that children that are raised around cats have less chances of having asthma. Also, children that are in households with pet dander have less allergies.

However, there are things you should do to prepare your dog for baby's arrival. An excellent article on this topic is located here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...

It explains things to do before and after your baby is born to ensure a happy adjustment.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

i am looking for a small dog, hair is white and is going to stay small i want him/her to be calm also. any tips on what kind of dog i should get would be Awesome. Thanks

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Only breed that comes to mind, is the West Highland White Terrier (aka ''Westies'')

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/westhighland...

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Yeah. Do your research. White, small, calm. Maybe a stuffed animal?

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

You should get a beagle or a lab.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

dachshund! they always stay small, they dont have white hair tho

but there are so friendly!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Check out your local shelter!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

My dog is a miniature Jack Russell.. He's calm and small, and he's all white, except for his head.

He's great with people of all ages.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

It is very difficult to find a small dog that is calm. I would recommend a toy poodles. They are small, come in white, and are relatively calm. Go to http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ to research breeds they also categorize them by size, exercises level, and other things. You should probably get an adult dog if you want a calm dog. No puppy is calm. It doesn't matter what breed. You should consider rescuing one, even if you do decide to get a puppy or young dog. Go to http://www.petfinder.com/ to find one that you can rescue.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

maltese, they are white and their coat is silky white not curly but they do require grooming, they are breed that stays under 10 pounds, coton de tulear a larger rarer toy breed that can get to 15 pounds is claimed to be dander and oil free coat as is the maltese it coat does not require clipping and sheds very little, some pomeranians come white they are light weight and small like the maltese but prone to be very yippy but there yip isn't real loud, then there's the toy poodle easy to find, all around smart little dog requires chipping, coat has low dander but is sometimes oily.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

small dogs are all hyper and bark constantly and chase there tails.... get a cat

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

You can try a mini or toy poodle. They are small and come in white. The smaller the dog the less calm though. Admittedly my two mini poodles are still puppies, so they may mellow a bit with age, but they are really anything but calm. They love to sit on your lap but at least once every night they have to run laps around the whole house for at least 10 minutes. Their parents were the same way, so I don't hold out much hope of mellowing. When you find a breed you like ask to see the parents. A good breeder should at least have the mother available. Mine acts exactly like his mother, so it really is a good indicator of future behavior.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Westies, Bichon Frises (although I have found them hard to train), Toy Poodles, any toy breed really. There is no breed that is predisposed to being "calm." All dogs are different. It depends on the environment and the training.

You may want to consider adopting a mixed breed from your local shelter, or better yet, do an internet search for local breed-specific rescue organizations. They are far better at spending time matching a dog's personality to a human's.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Westies, as someone said before, and some Miniature Schnauzers are whitish - although it's not part of the standard.

These dogs are terriers, though, so they will not be too "calm," unless you've just worn them out. Terriers are notoriously smart and fiesty. Don't get me wrong, terrier fans LOVE this, but if it doesn't sound like your thing, then it probably isn't.

There are many toy breeds that will stay small and are at least partially white: Shih-Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Bichon Frises, Papillons... but THEY ARE STILL DOGS. They still need training and playtime. Many people think their little dogs acting neurotic can't be fixed with training and attention, like bigger dogs.

My advice is to check out your local shelters and rescues and get an adult dog. Puppies are anything but calm. Adult dogs are more mellow. When you get a dog, tell the staff at the shelter/rescue what you are HONESTLY looking for. They should help you find a friend.

Good luck!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Maltese-white-small

Westhighland terrier.white-small

not sure how many others sorry Know more about medium to large dogs.

American eskimo dogs are beautiful who could resist but there medium not small but you should still take a little look.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

A Maltese or a Bichon would be a great dog for you. They are relatively small dogs, not more than 15 or 20lbs they arent overly active like Jack Russells, but arent slugs either. They dont have back problems like the Dachsunds but are prone to eye problems, and Luxating patellas( where the knee slips out of place, fairly common in small dogs, generally not a problem but depends on the severity of the disease.) They are white and have hair, not fur like most dogs, but they DO shed just not like a dog, its more like how people shed and if you dont keep them groomed they can develop mats. They can have allergy problems just like people and since their fur is white they may develop the tear stains but you can just wash that away. All in all a Bichon or a Maltese would be a great dog for you, and you can often find them in rescues, try www.petfinder.com

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Some of the best dogs are the mixed breed dogs. They are usually very even tempered. Check at a shelter or ask around your neighborhood. If you are looking for a puppy, get ready for some uncalm days. Puppies are very active and anything but calm. It sounds like you may want an older dog, a year or two old. Again, check a shelter. There are so many doge there in need of a good home.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

a chihuahua they are great but you have to know how to look after them and have monie they don't come cheep.

they are lovely dogs!

i'm getting one on friday yipppiiiii

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

how small ? how active r u ? ANY SMALL CHILDREN? terriers tend to be very active and/or hyper jack russell, schnauzer, westie, on the smaller side a maltese or bischon have good temperments needs grooming though scotties are mellow and french bulldogs are good and calm there is always a poodle or mix of any at any shelter or aspca that make great pets

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

maybe a maltese, westie, but before you adopted please do research.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I have a toy poodle. She is not calm, and is very active. My aunt has a maltese and it runs all over the place. Small and white is easy to find. Temperament is something that varies with every dog and is not necessarily associated with any breed. I suggest adopting an adult dog from a shelter. With an adult dog, you know what temperament the dog has developed. When adopting a puppy, outside of training it, you never know what you could get. Also, I do not recommend toy dogs if you have small children. They tend to be scared easily and could bite in their defense. Also, a small child doesn't understand how fragile a 8lb dog can be and can easily hurt it.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I think you should get a Bichon Frise it is exactly what you want. Trust me PLZ.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I don't think there are any small white dogs that STAY small. But, I know that chihuha stays small. I don't think there are any white, though.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

get a mixed breed!! theyre ALWAYS the nicest! and cheap!!! pure breeds seem to always have annoying little problems...

My poor little dog has a problem..?

my dog has been losing patches of hair and she seems to have a rash over her body.. I started giving her Benadryl and her hair seems to be growing back.. however, under her throat and her neck/chest there is no hair.. and it also seems inflamed.. she's almost eleven years old and she's a beagle. I'm concerned if something else could be wrong with her. I figure she was having an allergic reaction to something. she has a history of allergies.. but I'm worried that the hair isn't growing back on her throat and chest.. just doesn't seem right? anybody know anything that could be wrong with her? or that could help?

My poor little dog has a problem..?

My dog had similiar symptoms. I really didn't have the money to take her to the vet, so I set out to treat her. I used Desitin diaper rash ointment, neosporin, athletes foot cream and anti-itch cream. I did this for about a week and she looks like a different dog. Her hair is coming back and she has stopped scratching and digging her skin. I also made sure I treated her for fleas and ticks and I used Vinegar for that. It keeps the fleas and ticks off with the smell of it. (Just make sure you don't spray it on any open wounds, it burns). Anyway, I thought I would try these things before I paid a vet to do it. Worked like magic!

My poor little dog has a problem..?

Your dog has mange or ringworm. Plz get your pup to the vet!! Oh I;m so sorry.

My poor little dog has a problem..?

I Say Take Her To The Veternarians Office ASAP

My poor little dog has a problem..?

Yeah, that sounds like mange to me. Better get to the vet, pronto!

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

It doesn't have to be big, just a little beagle or something.

How can I convince them?

Whenever I ask them these things are what they say:

"They're too hard to take care of, and I bet you would NEVER take them for a walk, and they poop and pee all over the house."

"I don't even like dogs" (mom)

"They leave hair everywhere"

"You can get one once you move out and have your own place"

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

Pretend to be a burglar

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

What you could do is promise swear to them that every day you would give time to the dog etc. Leaving hair everywhere get a short haired dog...like a jack russel terrior, they barley leave hair any where!

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

do extra chores.it works

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

Make life sound better with a dog (which it definitely is).

They are a lot of work to take care of, but if you put some time into researching the breed you want, then they will see that you are already spending time on the dog. A great site with lots of information is www.breederretriever.com. Also, look into groomers, vet clinics, and training schools. Make your parents see that you are serious, and don't give up. As soon as you give up they will think you are bored of the idea.

Also, start going for walks on your own. After a week of going for walks on your own start telling them that it would be nice to have a dog as a walking partner.

Start giving your mom some funny facts about dogs, all the the things dogs can do, exciting information on particular breeds that you have been researching. Also, you can start posting pictures of really cute puppies everywhere (unless this annoys your parents).

Look into breeds that don't shed very much and breeds that are hypoallergenic. Poodles, wheatons, and shih tzus may be good options. Terriers, shepherds, and retrievers tend to be major shedders in comparison to some other breeds.

Good luck!

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I never liked dog clothes and bows in their hair- until I got my shih-tzu. Her hair is always in her eyes if it's not tied up, and she freezes and shivers outside if I don't put a doggy-shirt on her to go potty!!! (And, she looks adorable!)

But then there are people who use their dogs as accessories. I'm actually going to give a presentation on this for my public speaking class in school next week. Any thoughts would help!

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I have a schnauzer/poodle mix and I thought he would look absolutely adorable in this little blue sweater I bought. When I got home I attempted to put in on him, of course with a struggle. I thought he looked silly and the look I got from him was "you're kidding, right?" He flung himself against the furniture and walls trying to get it off. I took it off of him and returned it the same day. When I had him groomed, the groomer put a little scarf around his neck he didn't bother it, so he'll ocassionally wear a scarf.

Dogs are a huge part of our lives, they are our family. We shouldn't treat a dog as a child and dress it up in little outfits. I can understand if your dog needs it meaning if it's a smaller dog and it needs to keep warm. It's gotten so blown out of porportion and people have begun to go crazy with it. Does your Golden really need a sweater? No.

A dog is not an accessory. If you want to play dress up I suggest purchasing a baby doll. Again, I understand some dogs need a little sweater. I am seeing shoes for dogs that are not boots, pajamas and dresses. It's stupid. Your dog doesn't need jammies. It also drives me mad that people drag their dog with them to the store in their little purse carrier, the dog is squashed in while the owner shops. It doesn't make sense to me.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

i dont agree with poeple dresseing their pets up, the coats to keep them warm in the winter thats fine but when they put clothes on them and start to put sunglasses and hats and things on dogs i dont agree with it.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think 'abuse' is a little too strong a word, unless the clothing is too tight or is not allowing them to walk.

Mischa Barton using her dog as a purse - that was borderline abuse.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

tell you opinion..why you are oppose to it. Understand the opposition's point of view. Do your homework...we are not going to do it for you.

Good luck

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

It's abuse if there is something about the clothes that can choke or strangle the dog, like a sweater that goes over the head without Velcro closures, or strings dangling off a dog "hoodie".

Typing up the hair makes sense, as do dog blankets IF the animal must be groomed in a way that leaves his hair too short for protection (I mean the kind that look like horse blankets, not little human jackets that come in pet size sold in pet stores.)

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think there are far more important dog owner issues than dressing your dog.How about puppy mills supplying dogs to pet stores

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

As long as it is fun for the dog, then okay. I had a dog growing up who didn't mind being dressed up and we had a lot of fun playing together. Now I have 4 dogs and they hate it and get stressed and upset if I put anything on them, so I don't do it anymore.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think it is ok to dress up your animal but it is the people that just put them in their bag and parade them around that make me mad. They can walk. Some people take it to far where you can tell the animal isn't comfortable. You can make you happy by making the animal cute but make the animal happy by keeping it comfortable.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

i don't think dogs care about being dressed up, unless the clothing impedes their movement, is restrictive or is too hot, etc. It seems like people are the ones moralising about it for their own sakes. As long as dogs are well taken care of I can't see the harm. I personally couldn't be bothered but I will put a coat on my dog during winter to keep him warm.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think a dog has a coat there to keep it warm so it shouldn't need anything else. I have a 14 pound rat terrier with really short hair and she enjoys being outside in the winter, she loves the show and we still go for a walk every day unless it's colder than -20 degrees F. She doesn't shiver or need a coat so why should any dog???

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I cant put bows in my doggies hair because their short haired but I too put sweaters on for warmth and it says in my Chihuahua for dummies book to do that to keep them warm.If I dont they will shake, I live in the mountains where its cold, plus yes they look so cute but I think when people wanna pearce dogs ears and all thats pushing it.It can hurt them and people still do it.I would never.Even to look cute it could snag on something and rip the poor dogs ear. That is abuse to me.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I totally agree with you! Dog clothes can be good and bad. If it is to protect them from the cold, then they were an excellent idea. But i hate it when i see people carry around their dog (well except when their dog is tired) but COME ON DOGS HAVE FEET............THEY CAN USE THEM!!! if they wanted to carry around a thing and dress it up so it matches them, GIVE BIRTH TO A KID OR ADOPT ONE!!!!! People today have to learn how to treat their dogs like DOGS and let them be what they want to be. ok FYI..... dogs are dogs- not little babies. i love dogs and i hate to see them being treated like acessories. There is where you draw the line. Like it is OKAY to love your dog and everything, but there is a fine line between acessory and mans best friend - oh and another point MAN'S BEST FRIEND- NOT ACCESSORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for letting me voice my opinion :D :D that felt good- i let it all out! hope it helps for your assignment/ presentation :D

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

Unless your shih tzu is professionally clipped, the hair in front of the eyes has got to be tied up with latex bands. Its up to you what you put on your dog as long as it doesn't restrict her movement or going to potty. Yes, there are some people who take it too far, they start thinking about the health and welfare of the dog first then it moves to cute and then it moves to classy and expensive, that means that the health and welfare of the dog they began with went right out of the window!. They don't care if their dog cannot walk properly or run just as long as they look the biz! This is show off and shouldn't be done. yes, you can buy a doggy shirt or the odd classy collar as long as it doesnt go too far or over-clothed her and it doesn't hurt or restrict the every day lifestyle of the dog.

Hope this helps.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

If it does not physically harm the dog or cause it discomfort I see no problem with it. If it constricts movement, breathing or circulation, then it becomes a problem.

However, putting a frilly pink tutu on a male English bulldog or cane corso is wrong no matter how you look at it.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think dogs look stupid in some of the getups that people think they gotta have. But like you said a lot of people treat their dogs like a fashion accessory instead of a living breathing creature. My dogs do have little coats for when it is cold out. I have pajamas for one who is very cold natured but he only has to wear them when it is very cold. My dogs sleep in my very large laundry/mud room where I have a little heater to keep them warm. But sometimes the draft comes in under the door anyhow and even though their beds are elevated off the floor a little bit they still get cold, hence the coats. But the coats are functional, meaning that they are made out of a material that doesn't have tiny sequins or lace on it, the material is chosen for it's wearability for the dog. i try to choose materials that don't cause static cling - what dog wants that? I want something that is comforable and wont scratch or irritate. I try to choose materials that will launder and wear well. Cute is good but not a requirement.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and I live in South Dakota, so we have pretty cold winters (its been below zero more this month then it has been above) So both of my dogs have doggie boots and coats for when we go outside. I also do volunteer therapy work with my female Cavalier so she has quite a few different collars and some bandanas that she wears when we go places. I think that dog clothes and accessories are ok as long as they have a purpose. My friend has a Chinese Crested and he has shirts that she puts on him in the winter even when he is inside. Then he has a coat and boots for outside. When people dress thier dog up all the time and cart them around in a little bag or stroller is when I think its too much.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

A-ha, finally.. a question that interests me!

I also have a Shih Tzu. Trixie has a collection of coats, shirts, bows, barrettes, even her own bag that has all of her "hair stuff" in it. It includes brushes and combs, a MILLION rubber bands for her ponytails, and detangler spray. The moment I pull that bag out, she goes nuts! She runs over and will sit on my lap and hold still, eyes closed. It's like brushing a little girl's hair. Almost creepy, actually. But far from animal abuse.... I don't take her everywhere with me, but she does occasionally get to go "byebye" with me. She will NEVER be carried in a bag or purse, or attached to me while I go jogging, I assure you. Some dogs will let you know..... they either sit still and embrace it or they run away or bite at whatever you are trying to do to them.

She also has a pink suede coat... if I take it off of her and put it down, she goes and lays in it and tries to burrow, almost as if she's putting it back on. :)

Good luck on your presentation.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

She is a pit terrier mix and has the short, coarse hair of a pit bull. The past couple of weeks she has been shedding so much. I'm not normally allergic to dog hair, but it's been making my allergies pretty bad. It's all over the house and on my bed. I bathe her on a weekly basis and purchased a firm brush and a shedding tool to help with the hair loss. She is on a proper diet, is healthy, and up to date on all her shots. So far, nothing has really worked. It's only getting worse and I'm incredibly frustrated!! What should I do?

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

nothing? They need to shed, nothing you can really do. I guess brush his hair outside and i guess you could use some nature's mircale dander remover and deoderizer. You can purchase it for 6-8 dollars. It works very good and keeps my dog smelling fresh.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

your dog will shed no matter what. but you can reduce it by maybe feeding her some coat shining dog food. maybe that will reduce the shedding. but i am just putting in my 2 cents. p.s i have a pit terrier mix, and she is beautiful!!!

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Shave off all the hair.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Try giving her a fish oil capsule. You can get them from your vet. It will make their skin soft. It has worked for my lab.

Are you having extremely hot weather in your area? This could be the cause of it, my lab has shed more this summer than the last two summers in So Cal.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Get the Zoom Groom. It's made by Kong and it does a great job on short haired breeds. I got enough off of my Doberman to knit a sweater!!!! It keeps all the hair from coming off in your house, and they actually like it. If she's healthy and there is no health issues, then it is just a grooming issue. Some dogs shed more at certain times of the year, or even f they are stressed. So just brush her really good with the Zoom Groom. It was about $8 at Petsmart.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Certain times of the year, dogs shed. Ours sheds more when the weather is hot. Just brush him as often as you can. We've had hair flying all over for about a week

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

I use a Shed Ender rake. It works great and gets the top and under coat of my dogs. Just be careful, its sharp.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

you can try cutting her hair short; I have one that sheds a lot during the summer;

this is mostly normal for dogs to do; if it is excessive then the pet might be sick

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Don't be so lazy - brush her at least once a day to get out all the dead hair. There's no such thing as "stopping" shedding as it's something their bodies normally do. Brushes don't really do much for removing dead hairs - on dogs or cats. Get a steel comb which will remove the loose dead hair MUCH more effectively.

FYI - dog and cat HAIR isn't what people are allergic to - it's the dander. Get your dog a good conditioning shampoo and add some salmon oil to her diet. There's also stuff you can get called "Allerpet" to put on your dog that will help with the dander as well.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

I was invited to the Iditarod in Alaska this March with a friend, but I don't think that I am eligible to compete in this race myself, and this race lasts about ten days.

So, in my time spent waiting for the racers to show up to finish in Nome, I want to do some sled dog racing of my own. I don't have a dog of my own, but the neighbor girl has a Havanese, and I know that she would let me use it.

Her Havanese has short, stubby legs, and it has a lot of hair in its eyes. I would assume that since the limbs are short, this dog would most likey have good circulation compared to a dog with long limbs. Also, the hair would keep the snow out of its eyes.

I would like to make the Havanese the first member of my sledding team if it won't excessively endanger its life.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Yes, a Havanese is the perfect sized dog to be on your team.

It weighs less than 15 pounds so you'll hardly feel the weight of it when you're dragging that heavy sled. Make sure you bring a blanket for it to curl up in so it will be comfy.

Havanese are NOT sledding dogs! Of course it would kill it.. Sled dogs are bre and raised to be sled dogs and that is all they know all their lives..

Sure, get a whole team of Havanese! They'll be much lighter for you to pack out on your back when you end up walking.

There's a reason you don't see Havanese Iditarod. It's the same reason you don't see poodles, minipins, afghan hounds, and housecats pulling the sleds. They just aren't suitable.

Are you serious???

Sled dogs are usually husky mixes (Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute). It takes a hardy, long legged, and thick furred dog to survive in those harsh conditions. The dog needs a double coat to stay warm, and long legs so it can make decent time and not wear itself out too much. The smallest sled dog I've seen weighed about 50 pounds or so. A short legged dog has absolutely no place on a sled team, and there's just not too worry about snow in the eyes. A Havanese is meant to be a lap dog. That's what they excel at, and that's what they are bred for.

you need to spend time, dedication and money on education and experience from seasoned racers if you want to get into this sport, not go round your girlfriends and borrow her free pet dog, that will die miserably out there! For goodness sake, please have some brain cells and humanity
