Are there any natural cures for flaky dry skin on a dog.?

I was told it may be from allergies, but no clue what is causing it. My dog has lost hair in patches from itching. Any shots or antibiotics from the vet only provide temporary relief.

Unfortunately much more history would be needed in recommending a cause and treatment for your dog's problem. Questions like when did it start, how old is your pet, is it year round, what medications were given, etc need to be answered first. If frustrated with your general practitioner, try seeking out a specialist. There are veterinary dermatologists. They have a much greater knowledge of skin and skin diseases then the general practitioner. One may be a distance to travel, but it'll be worth it. It may also be more expensive then you are used to, but remember, these people have far more training in dermatology then your local vet. They have gone through internships, residencies, submitted research papers, and passed very rigorous board exams. Look for one that is licensed by the American College of Veterinary Dermatologists and be a Diplomat, American College of Veterinary Dermatology. Allergies could very well be the cause, however it may also be due to other medical conditions. It's not only inappropriate but unprofessional to make a diagnosis or recommend treatment without a proper history or medical evaluation. Good luck!

Absolute best remedy is taking your dog to the beach on a daily basis and letting them have a swim to wet there coat and rubbing wet sand into the coat for about 10 mins.wet sand exfoliates there skin and gets rid of any flaky skin. After you have used wet sand to exfoliate let your dog have another big swim to rinse all the sand out of the coat....

This really works your dogs skin problem should clear up with in a week and you will notice the difference after one day.

Yes try this. One vitamin E every other day the ones that look like gel tablets, just prick hole in it and squirt into the dogs mouth. And change his feed no can food. Boil chicken and add rice Brown . Put some of this on his kibble every night. Do not by the store brand kibble try to get a kibble at pet co for skin irritation. That should do it. Wash him with a skin shampoo even head and shoulders, it is a form of psoriasis OK Lee

Flaky skin comes from within. If you use a food such as Wellness by Old Mother Hubbard, you will find there is a big difference in your dog's coat. I use the Ocean fish %26amp; sweetpotatoe. If you check the ingredients, you will find that there are no preservatives or anything that you could not eat yourself.

Get a spray bottle like Windex. Clean well. Put about 1 inch Skin-so-soft, 1 inch rubbing alcohol, then top off with water. Mist the dog and brush at least once a week. Will get rid of fleas too. Be careful around the eyes.
