Dog Shes Too Much.?

Hello my dog shed sooo much hair its ridiculous and my mother is even planning on giving it up. Of course I do not want this. Is there any thing we could do to stop or reduce the amount of shedding ? My dog is a chihuahua and we feed him Pedigree. Is it the food ? Its Pedigree for Puppies and its dry. Anyone suggest better brands of food. Every advice is need and thank you !

Heres a picture for better advice.

I hope my dog is a chihuahua lol.

I would recommend a few things....

1) Get a better quality food. If you do not live near a boutique pet supply store you can still get Blue Buffalo and AvoDerm at Petsmart. At some (but not all) Petcos you can find Solid Gold and Natural Balance. Other good brands sold at smaller pet stores include Annamaet, Merrick, Canidae, Wellness and Innova.

2) Add 1/2 tsp of Flax Seed Oil to every meal

3) Brush or comb your dog daily. You may need to invest $50 in the Furminator. I don't use it on my dog, but I have heard many good things about it

4) Vacuum daily, I do.

brush her every day. that should help some

ANY food would be better.

Personally I feed my dogs Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. A higher quality food MAY help.

I can't see how our dog can shed that much. I didn't think chiwawa or how ever yo spell it shed that much anyway.

You can't reduce shedding... You can make it easier...Brush him...They HAVE to get a new coat every year...Its what chihuahua owners go through. You really should change your food into

CANIDAE ALL LIFE STAGES

Cute dog

daily brushing will help it a lot. there is a lot of reasons she could be shedding so much, under stress, loosing her summer coat etc......just regualr brushing will help dont think there is any food nor products for shedding, sry.

brush her daily... get a shedding blade - it helps lift the hair up from the under coat and she will shed less. Get shed defense pills from the pet store - those work well... otherwise, brewers yeast in pill form also helps. The food you are feeding is full of fillers and probably not helping her - she should be on a fortified food that the main ingreadient is listed as meat - try Eukanuba, Wellness, Canidae or California Natural - these brands are better than the store brand junk...

Every dog is going to shed - its a part of owning the dog. Keep clothes off the floor and the dog off the furniture/out of the car....

I would suggest taking her to the groomers every six weeks for shave and bath. Brush her everyday to get that loose hair off and try arm and hammer pet hair release powder. You sprinkle it on the carpet and vacuum it and all the pet hair vacuumed up. Put blankets on places she sleeps or plays or what ever. If you cant afford a groomer , do it yourself, meaning a bath and get the scissors or some grooming clippers out. Check out your local petco for grooming supplies.

He's adorable!! Brushing everyday should help. Also, get some two sided tape and wrap your hands in it, then pat him and alot of that loose hair will come right off.

Sorry but I agree with some of the others, how much can a small dog like that shed. i think it's a really pathetic excuse and for goodness sake, it's only hair and it only lasts for 3-4 weeks once or twice a year. I'm the owner of an australian cattle dog who are well renowned for shedding a lot and yes she does shed for weeks on end, but hey, that's what vaccuum cleaners are for. What's more important, your dog or the appearance of your carpet? Not much you can do about it but daily brushing will help as at least it won't all end up on the floor or furniture and also changing her diet to better quality food would definitely be good. Try Eukanuba or Hills. Good luck

For me i would start to brush it daily and try different dog products. Maybe try something wet like chicken or beef instead of dry food, in addition it might be sheding season?

Hmm, perhaps you should have looked into the amount of shedding before you got that breed. Brush him regularly, vacuum a lot, and sweep the floors a lot. And I seriously doubt he sheds that much. I've got a corgi, who blows his undercoat twice a year. Believe me, THAT'S shedding!

A good way to minimize shedding for the day is to manually shed her outdoors. They sell special combs at almost every pet store that will do the job. Take him outside, Comb him down, and it should help with the shedding indoors. Plus he should LOVE the feel of it. I know my dogs do! Also, to prevent your mother from feeling like getting rid of the dog you could try swiffering the house daily. It only takes a minute, and may relieve your mother of some of that stress. Show her you are willing to take resposibility for the dog, and that you really do love him.

Good Luck!

Shedding comes with owning pets. Nearly all breeds of dogs and cats shed, it's the natural cycle of growth. The best thing you can do is to brush him every day. Here is a link to a supplement you can try giving him, I've not had any experience with it, though. Also, talk to your vet, I'm sure he or she can suggest some things you can try.

Please don't get rid of him, he's so sweet, and you're all he's got. He depends on you for his well being. Pets are worth a little hair here and there! They give unconditional love.

Pedigree is a low quality food.

Chihuahuas also shed quite a bit. One thing that's worked for me is a brush called the Furminator. It's done wonders for my dog's shedding. I brush the dog with the furminator for about 20 minutes (of course, she's a lot bigger than a Chi) every week until I get most of the huge clumps of fur out. The brush is a bit expensive, and you can also get shampoos, deshedding treatments, and treats. I find that the brush by itself does wonders.

I also brush my dog with a regular brush when she needs it, bathe her regularly, and make sure she's healthy with regular vet checkups. It sounds like you love your dog very much if you want to keep him - shedding is a pain, but it's a part of being loved by a dog. Good luck!

EDIT:

Foods to try include Canidae All Life Stages, Innova, Merrick, Solid Gold... I feed Innova EVO and you should see how gorgeous and shiny my dog's coat is.
