Drying my Dogs Hair?

Hey all should i let my dogs coat dry naturally which takes 2-3 hrs plus and i dont want him to to get sick or should i use a blow dryer on a low setting and not getting to close to his skin so i dont hurt him while i brush it. He has somewhat long hair and i cannot get him to a groomer till the holidays are over.

Thanks for the Answer! =).

You can use your blow dryer if he will let you. Just put the setting on low or cool and don't let the dryer blow the air in one place for too long.

Have a great Holiday!

Blow dry is fine just be sure to move it around so the heat is concentrated on one specific spot.

Hope this helps!

Happy Holidays!

If it is cold where you are (I am in Australia, so it's warm) I would use the blow dryer - that's what we use in our grooming salon. If he is in a warm room he can dry naturally, just towel dry him to get the excess water off.

Good Question! Let it air dry. The dryer can actually ruin the dog's skin. Make sure to use towels to dry him off real well. Don't always give him a bath though, maybe every 3 weeks or a month...(depending how dirty). On accasion you can blow dry the hair, (if your in a hurry) but make sure it is on low and cold and make sure not to get to close while drying the dog.

Hope I Helped!

Use a hair dryer on a low setting, and wiggle the dryer around as you dry the fur. I'd get it as dry as you can before brushing, wet long dog fur can be tough to brush.

Defenitely blow dry his coat. Then he won't be all soaking wet and he won't get your floors slippery. Have him sit down and blow dry him on the lowest setting and on the coolest setting. As you are doing this, comb out his fur with a wide tooth comb.

If you dry it, be VERY careful to get all of his coat dry. Groomers are very careful when they do this because if you trap any wetness under neath the dried hair overtop of it you will start a hot spot. That occurs when the wetness is trapped close to the skin trapping moisture that will lead to skin break-down. At some point the dog will likely start to mess with the spot, either chewing on it or in some other manner irritating it causing the skin break-down to spread further. Generally these are treated by shaving the area, treating topically, and with oral antibiotics for any skin infections. So yes, go ahead and blow dry, but do it VERY carefully :) Best of luck!

Everyone else's suggestions about blow dryers are good.

Also try using a defuser....it ensures that you don't have the air focusing on one spot. It really helps with my shih-tzu.

Towel dry part of your dog's fur, then finish with a blow dryer on cool setting.

it depends, i let my dogs fur air dry when its summer cause he doesn't need more heat. but durring winter, i towel dry as much as i can first then blow dry on low setting. i don't want him walking around when the water gets cold and he's walking around with like a wet cold towel all over him.
