Help! My dog is starting to flake a lot and her hair is beginning to fall out!!!???

She is 6 years old and full beagle. She also has been having bad ear infections, which we have been trying to treat. I don't know whats going on with her. If you touch her from the neck down she begins to itch and cringe when you touch her their. What can I do? Please help me!

It's time to take the dog to the vet.

She sounds pretty uncomfortable.

First of all she needs to see a vet. What kind of food do you feed her? A lot of foods are not great for your pets. I would recommend California Natural for dogs w/ allergies. Call your vet and take her in...something is not right w/ your pup. Good luck!

sounds like she has seasonal allergies. Try giving her some honey everyday. That helps. And start washing her in a medicated shampoo. if that doesnt work i would bring her to a holistic vet

Please, please, please take her to the vet. It sounds like it could be serious, not to mention very uncomfortable. Good luck.

There are honestly many reasons for hair loss in a dog. Most commonly are allergies and diet. Make sure your feeding her a good food (prefer Iams, Hills, or Eukanuba). Take your dog to the Vet and have her checked out. They may have you also put her on a Essential Fatty Acid diet...which is basicly just a fish oil supplement you add to the food. If none of this works they'll probably run a blood panel check, thyroid, and glucose (for possible diabetes). I hope this helps.

Glad you are going to be taking her to a Vet because the Vet can look at your dogs skin, ears, draw some blood and check for diseases that could be causing this, incl. checking her thyroid. No one here could tell you what to do because the dog needs to be seen and tested by a Vet.

Even a Vet that reads this would tell you to take it in for an examination. Hope you update us when your dog gets tested and treated.

The next step would be to work on her diet depending on what the Vet finds out. Wishing you both the best!

She could have a yeast infection dogs with floppy ears tend to. get her ears caltured so you know what you are fighting. Mange(sp?) causes fur to fall out so does hot spots

This could be dietary as mentioned. Is she regularly treated for fleas? She could have developed mange if the hair is coming out in clumps. Is she pulling the hair out herself? If so, this can be stopped by putting perhaps something like vinegar on the spot, or even by putting an elizabethan collar on whilst you treat her topically with creams or whatevr is recommended. But do get to a vet asap. You are obviously concerned and love your dog.

Wow! This sounds remarkably like ringworm with a secondary skin infection! If I were you, to be on the safe side, don't let your dog get in contact with any of the family until you can get it to the vet. Ringworm is highly contageous to everyone, including humans. It is also very difficult to get rid of and your dog will need to be quarrantined while being treated.

I am treating a rescued foster dog for this right now. Minimum 21 days in quarrantine, then two more tests before he can be released.
