How can i convince my parents to let me get a dog?

I really love dogs and would love to get one but my parents wont let me. They have there resones. My Father is alergic to dog and cat hair. and my mom wont let me have one because she says that when we go away travaling that no one would be able to take care of it. And we do go travaling alot. So what should i do?

You should Get over the idea that you're going to get a dog, because you're not.

Sorry kiddo!

Just gonna have to wait until you're out on your own! :)

I agree with the above. It was nearly impossible to convince my parents, and they didn't even have good reasons for me not to get a dog!! I'm sorry, it probably won't work out. Especially with your dad having allergies, and you travelling. Perhaps you could get another pet? I know nothing can compare with a dog though. How about a rodent of some kind? A rabbit?

I have done everything to and what worked for me is telling them everything I would do for it and I will help them buy stuff...... also tell them if you don't take care of it they can sell it.

well, i'm not very sure what you should do, depends on your parents.

But i say do whatever it takes, coz thats what i did, and it worked. (i stayed up two nights and didn't let them sleep until my dad said YES to me.) Kinda immature but if i had to i would do it all over again.

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I don't mean it in a mean way either, just curious. But would you be able to take care of the dog ontop of school? a dog is a huge responsibility, it's not just feeding and playing. the first year really runs up the bill, getting it properly trained and exercised every day too - You're lucky that you and your family get to travel a lot, in many other families they don't have that chance. Enjoy it while you still can, once you get older it might all change. Think about a pet later, when you're old enough to move out and have time to devote to a pet. Anyways, your dad is allergic, would really suck if you get a dog and he has severe allergies especially when the dog sheds. Perhaps think about a more suitable pet for now? something your dad won't be allergic too - box turtle? of course it won't fetch and u can't cuddle, but it's a start to show your parents that you are responsible, plus they don't have to eat every day when fed correctly. I have dogs at home, but i added a nice addition - a tank full of clown fish =)

Depending on your age you might try volunteering at an animal shelter one afternoon a week or on Sat. That way you could be around dogs, help w/ their care, yet not subject your dad to the dander and hair or have to worry about a dog when your family travels. If you want to make a little money you might check w/ your parents and see if they'd let you start a dog walking business close to your house. Be creative. You don't have to have your own dog in the house to enjoy being around dogs. Once you are old enough to be out on your own you can have all the dogs you want (and can afford...remember there are food, grooming, and vet bills.)

To be honest if you travel a lot you may want to wait to get a dog maybe when you move out of the house. Dogs need a LOT of attention, and kennels can be very expensive. If no one is willing to pay for one I don't see what you can do. Sorry to be a downer, but maybe it's just not the right time for you. If you like dogs you might want to volunteer at a local animal shelter though- you'd be helping out a great deal, and having fun.

Honestly, those reasons are very good ones. I believe your best bet is to just wait until you're out on your own and you can take on all the financial and time responsibilities. Allergies are a very legitimate reason. There are tons of dogs in shelter that were surrendered by their owners for allergies. Some people know they have allergies, go ahead and get a pet anyway, realize it's not working out and their health is suffering, and then there's yet another animal in the already overflowing shelters.

Traveling is also a legitimate reason to hold off, especially as you admit it is frequent and there is no one available who could watch your pet while you're away. In the end, it would be the pet who would suffer and likely end up either miserable or back in a shelter.

I'm not trying to lecture but these are the realities. Your parents are right to say no for right now. I think it's great that you love dogs and want to have one, but again I feel it's in your best interest, and any potential pet's best interest, to just hold off for right now.

You should really look into dog walking or pet sitting any friend's or neighborhood dogs and also look into volunteering at one or more animal shelters in your area. This would give you excellent time to spend with many dogs and give them extra love while they wait for their forever homes.

My parents are the same way. Butttt now I'm getting a doggy! A miniature Maltese. They have 1 layer of hair and don't shed. They are no out door though. Get a outdoor dog and while u are traveling have someone feed it. When they are outside they are used to being alone.
