My dog has serious aggressive problems.. with other dogs.?

he's a huge baby when it comes to people, but with dogs, it's a whole other story.

i live on the second floor at my apartments, and even then, when he sees a dog passing by, his hair raises and he barks and stops on the patio. needless to say, calm walks don't come about often, especially if there's dogs.

short of getting cesar millan, i'm not sure what to do. over the time that i've had him, it seems to be getting progressively worse.

me and my old roommate adopted him and her dog at the same time from a local pound (he was about 1 1/2 then and i've had him for a little over a year). back then, he only had food aggression, which was quickly and easily taken care of. but since she has moved out, he's just gotten worse.

i've considered taking him to a dog park and just let him socialize with other dogs, which is what i'm thinking this is steming from (i didn't have him as a puppy, so i can't say for sure).

anyway, any help would be great.

you really dont want your dog to attack another dog. I myself have a pitbull puppy, and obedience training is the best possible answer. If your not sure how to help him, get help from a trained professional. You can go to petsmart and get obedience classes. If your dog is not improving, you can take the class again for free. Its definitely worth it because you dont want your dog to get hurt or hurt another dog.

If he is aggressive towards other dogs, and if he is really that large DO NOT TAKE HIM TO A DOG PARK! This could put the other dogs in danger if you lose control of him. Seek professional help. Not ceaser millan, but an animal behaviorist who can help work on this behavior with you.

Why put your dog and other dogs at risk by taking him to the dog park. There are way too many dog fights at those dog parks and I will not take my dog for an unsocial dog to attack them. You need to get a qualified trainer who specializes in dog aggression to work with you. There is no quick fix and its going to take time and work to get him over the issue. Do not take him to the dog park where he can attack another dog. There are rules for dog parks and one is NO dog or people aggressive dogs allowed. Are you ready to pay vet costs if your dog tears into another dog or even kill it?

It is that he was not socialized properly. Actually, my dog would go after every dog/person he came across. we had to keep a muzzle on him! We took him to a dog park and was fine! I don't know if he is just unhappy on a leash, but we were astonished. put him back on the leash on the way to the car he tried to attack a dog. hmmm...not telling you what to do, just thought I'd give you that.

i suggest muzzeling him when around other dogs just for a little bit so he gets used to being around other dogs when u think he is ready and comfortable take of the muzzel and see how he reacts if aggressive behavior continues muzzle him again. use agressive voice when dealing with him "dont let him know its ok" good luck

He's dog on dog aggressive . Meaning since he's dog aggressive , NO DOG PARKS!!!

If you take him to a dog park , he could end up injuring or killing another dog because of this dog aggression . But since you are desperately needing help , i would not reccomend you do this by yourself in any way. You need a proffessional dog trainer or a dog behavoirist to evaluate how bad his case is . It may cost alot of money , but its worth it because thats the deal of having a pet .
