hes a pomeranian, and I was going to have his hair trimmed since its been so hot..so when it grows back in the winter..is it going to grow back funny..or be just as poofy and normal as it is now? Because it seems like when I shaved my other dogs hair it didnt grow back in as long..but then shes also really old, so maybe that has something to do with it..so just asking..I know this may be a dumb question! but...yeah.

Pomeranians have a thick undercoat of fur(thick coarse fur, not fine soft hair), and I have seen quite a few that never grew back right...they look and feel terrible, and it doesn't grow back nicely all the time. Shaving them will not make them cooler anyway, the fur acts as an insulator to both heat and cold. Panting is the only way they cool off, so having less fur is not a big difference. Just make sure he is brushed daily to get all the loose undercoat out, and you could take him to a groomer to trim him up to look nice and get his undercoat brushed out really good, but don't shave him.

Yes, it will grow back to the state it's in now, if you shave him. I have shaved my dog, and his fur grew back just fine.

Its the same as yours. As long as health is good hair comes back as it was before. I personally dont like to shave a animal but if it makes it feel better who am I to let my selfish tastes make it suffer in the heat?

According to my vet you should never shave your dog because the coat might not grow back the same. The dog was made with that coat for a reason. Just keep him brushed to keep all the dead hair off him!!

Pomeranian is a dog with thick under coat..

i know it was hot season now, better not to shave it.

Just ask your groomer to trimming it short a bit, when winter come it will grow back on time..

it was best to brush it twice a week for brushing out the dead hair and allow his hair to look nice ...

Brushing hair is important for a dog with under coat..

And if it was really hot.. bring him out for swimming... does he know?? or let him take a shower..to cool down the heat..
