Worked as a dog bather for a few years, I wouldn't EVER put grease on a dog...the best thing is to use an oatmeal or hypoallergenic shampoo and a conditioner. Do not bathe the dog too often, that will also dry the skin. Petsmart carries some great shampoos for dandruff. The only human shampoo that you could use (even though you should never use human shampoo), is herbal essence. Make sure you use a conditioner and let the conditioner soak for 5-10 minutes if possible.

Your dog needs to be brushed to stimulate natural oil, and he needs a hypoallergenic, or a dry skin dog shampoo.

Wash him with that, and if theres no imporvment, its worse, or severe, take him to a vet or groomer.
