I recently got my dog a summer cut. Unfortunately his hair was cut way too short and my dog looks like a cat now. Can anyone tell me how long it will take my dog to grow its hair back to about 3 inches in length?

Maybe a few months.

five or six months to get to three inches. don't forget a sweater if he needs it when it gets cold..

6months to one year! and use a dog shampoo so it will not be long as 1 year!

I have a Shih Tzu that is just over year old. I find when he gets his summer cut it takes about 4 months for him to grow about 2 inches or just below that. I think this slowes down a bit the older the dog is ,just like people. Check with other owners on a site like Dogster, someone there may have been through this. PS. Your furriend can get a page there!

Probably a few months. One of my girls is cut short and it seems like her hair grows much faster than that, but it's really no different than a human - each of us has hair that grows at different rates. If you click on the link below, you can see a picture of my Ryleigh - I LOVE this cut on her, we keep it year-round. :)

Wow, it's not good to go too short...it sets up your dog for sunburn...ouch! Probably your dog is 99% indoor dog though....their hair grows about what ours does at least a 1/2" a month, usually more....up to 1" a month is possible.

not to long of course just wait and let it grow

Well, thank you very much to the groomer... now you can worry about having him getting a sunburn... the hair is much like a humans and will grow about 1/2" per month unless it has split ends... Hopefully this fruitcake used sharp scissors on your little dog.
I used to have Maltese with the hair also.
Good Luck

I also have a dog and his hair needed a month and a half 2 grow back to 1cm (sorry for the centimeters, I'm from Europe...). By the way, my dog isn't a 'big' one also, it's a papillon.
