I need to find out if my male dog will keep making those hormone reactions when on heat after being

Well, My 2 year old Lab tends to go on heat every time I take my small dog to cut her hair. Now, I don't know if it's her being gone or cutting her hair that makes him go on heat, and Big Time!! He tends to lick and lick my dogs neck and head or sniff her around a lot but more like licking and licking, she looks like if someone just threw her a bucket of water on her and it gets very irritating so dose my small dog. They're both outside dogs so at some point like at night they're alone. The first time we took her to cut her hair the next morning she had a small whole on her side seems like they got on a fight and the lab is like 20 times bigger than her so of course she's the one who go hurt. I felt sooo bad.... so we punished him and so on. Now, this is another time where again we took her out to cut her hair and now I heard them fighting outside and again it was the whole licking and licking and my lab being on heat. GRRRR!!! so am thinking of spaying him but first I'd like to know

First off... males don't go into heat. Secondly punishing him so long after the fact won't solve anything cause he won't have the slightest idea why you're hurting him.

Gets both your dogs nuetered and spayed. That should fix most of the problem. If it doesn't, consider letting the smaller dog sleep inside at night to avoid the fighting.

male dogs do not go into heat, and they are neutered not spayed, and the licking is probably because the small dog "smells funny" to your lab so he probably will continue to lick her excessively after he has been neutered.

you should have him neutered anyway unless you want him to possibly end up with prostate infections, prostate cancer, or testicular cancer.

I don't know for sure, but I think, from what I know, they will mostly.

Males don't come into heat, they are neutered not spayed.. And OMG I don't even know what the heck you are talking about.. Spay and Neuter your pets.. PLEASE.....

Only unspayed female dogs come into heat..male dogs get neutered. they do not come into heat..I don't know if it will stop when he is neutered..he may be reacting to the smell of all the other dogs @ the groomers..keep them apart when the female comes home from the groomers if the lab causes trouble.

He is probably reacting to the different smells your smaller dog brings home from the groomer. All the different smells make it seem like a totally new dog. Try having the groomer use a fragrance free shampoo and no cologne, or take them both in... one for a haircut the other for a bath, then they will smell the same. It has worked for several of our client dogs who have the same problem.

Its not likely to help because hes already maturer I'm sorry about the fighting you'll just have to keep a close eye on the lil girl to keep her safe

It's because she is giving off a different scent when she comes back from the Groomer's, probably he.can't understand why she smells different and just wants to lick her.

This happens when I take my Springer for her regular trim and grooming. When I bring her back all the other dogs go crazy, sniffing her and get very excited. My male dogs chase her round trying to mount her. I put it down to the smell of the shampoo. For some reason it seems to' turn them on'. Maybe they just want to lick off the new smell and bring back the old doggy smell, I just don't know. Incidentally, two of my boys are neutered and it doesn't seem to make any difference, they still try and mount all my females after they have been groomed..

You could have your dog neutered if you wish. It will certainly stop any unwanted pregnancies but I don't think it would change anything as far as the licking is concerned.

Don't apologize for being young. You are trying to learn here. Most likely your dog is just reasserting its dominance when your other dog returns. It just means the male is saying come on in but, remember I'm still in charge. That's all. Neuter the male and it may not be a severe but, it wont go away all together. Dominance is established even in fixed dogs.
