Well, I don't know of any cases of poisoning or illness from ingesting dog hair (I would be long dead!) /but for hygenic purposes, I would keep them out of the kitchen, unless wearing a sweater to keep their hair from flying when they shake.

Probably not if the dog has a history of getting dirty. Plus if you have guests over they really won't like hair in their food no matter what it comes from.

Brush the dog more often (not in the kitchen) and it will have a bit less hair flying.

I don't think you are likely to get an illness or disease from accidentally ingesting some dog hair, but it's certainly not esthetically pleasant.

I have long haired dogs that shed in my house, but their hair rarely moves off the floor. Whenever I see puffballs of shed undercoat, I get the dust mop or broom and sweep it up.

Let's put it this way--dogs are not allowed in grocery stores or restaurants, not even McDonalds, unless it is a guide dog for the blind. Trouble is, even by keeping your dog out of the kitchen, how is the HAIR supposed to know? Got the same problem with cats.

My dogs sort of hang out on the floor, so I'm the only one who sheds in my food.

I think that as long as you wash your hands, and keep your cooking area clean, your food will be safe for human consumption.

No, not harmful, but hair can get into the food. I would suggest training your dog that the door in/out of the kitchen is a boundry.

To do this lay a broom crosswise in front of the doorway. Have your dog sit in front of the broom and say wait. Step backward into the kitchen and if the dog tries to follow, body block it, put it back in a sitting position outside the door and say wait. Repeat this until the dog understands that every time it tries to enter the kitchen it will be put back out. I should catch on that it can watch at the door, but not enter.

I also do this for my dogs because they are danes and can help themselves to food when my back is turned. Sometimes, very hot food.

I do not think that is unhealthy, but quite unsanitary. I love animals, but i do not like eating their hair. I suggest keep the dog out of the kitchen when you are cooking and clean your kitchen before you cook. (unless of course you like hair in your ground meat) To each their own I say.

i wouldnt say its healthy for any dog to be in the kitchen, and if it is in the kitchen, then u should always wipe down the bunker tops before using them as the hairs tend to go everywhere....not very nice if u make ur mate a cuppa an they get a big dog hair in their cup is it.. lol

My dogs are where I am. If a hair gets in the food, pick it out. If you miss one, so what? Hair is protein, I think fur is too.

no because if u have a long haired dog it is not very healthy because if u have a long hared dog when u brush him or her grums adesses u shoul brush him or her if u have a long hared dog before u cook if u do not brush it use licall wipes and wipe down every thing in the kitten and then ever thing should be fine

Okay, I have 5 dogs, and 3 cats, so animal hair is everywhere. That is why sweeping, vacuuming and moping daily is in order. It may not be appetizing find animal hair in your dinner, but it isn't going to kill you. I'd rather find one of my dog's hair on my plate, than find a human hair in my meal at a restaurant.

Kind of. I have two dogs and five cats, so there's a lot of hair floating about. (Air vents are also in the floor.) When it's time to cook, I put the animals out of the kitchen, (difficult, I tell ya) and sweep the floor twice, then wipe down all surfaces. It can be a drag, but our pets give us so much joy, it's worth it.

No, it is not healthy for us Humans. If the dog is outside a lot, his hair carries all types of germs, insects, and odors. I, personally, don't understand why owners allow their dogs to tousle all over their young kids and lick them in their face. Yuk! Just think of what dogs do with their tongues and noses!! Don't misunderstand me, I LOVE dogs for companions! But they can be carriers of unpleasantness for kids and food.

So if you care about your family's health, keep dogs out of your kitchen while preparing food, especially long-haired dogs. You don't want anyone spitting out hairballs at the dinner table. (smile)

I have two Siberian Huskeys, so our family is used to dealing with lots of dog hair on a daily basis. I don't know of anyone that has died from ingesting dog hair; (if that were the case, our family would have been dead long ago!) however, I don't want it flying around in the kitchen when I am trying to cook. When we are cooking or sitting down to the table to eat, our dogs, much as we love them, are NOT allowed in the house at those times. They are allowed in the house all other times, however they have been taught NOT to go into the kitchen. They will sit at the edge of the dining room and look into the kitchen, but they know that is their limit.

If you comb your dog at least once a week that keeps the shedding down. My dog loves it.
