Dog grooming at home problems..please help?

can we use johnson and johnson no more tears for baby shampoo on dogs or should we go buy dog shampoo..if we need dog shampoo could u suggest some that smell really good please?

teddy is a short hair dog with the body of a greyhound, the short hair and coloring and face/ears of a beagle so i dunno if that makes any difference

daisy is half pomeranian and half bijon so she has curly little hair but now shes kinda bald cuz my brother took haircutting scissors and his hair buzzers to her because last time she was professionally groomed they shaved her (she went from white and fluffy to pink and cold!!) so he took it upon himself to do it...is there anything we can do to make his butchering of her fur less noticable? we may just put her red sox onesie on (yes the dog wears a onesie sometimes cuz its cute) haha

Baby shampoo is okay. I've also used human shampoos and even diluted dish soap (I like the scented ones).

For nice smelling dog shampoos, I like either LaPooch http://www.lespoochs.com/

or Lambert Kay Fresh N Clean Oatmeal and Baking Soda

http://www.lambertkay.com/products/prod_...

or Kelco Oats Fur Coats (nice cinnamon smell)

As for the butchered hair cut, you'll either have to let it grow out or see if a groomer can fix it (sometimes the owner hacks off so much that we'd need to shave it bald to fix it).

Next time, take her to the groomer before she gets matted, so she can get a longer hair cut.

And don't let your brother do it again!

Baby shampoo is ok, but I'd say go with dog shampoo. Lots of them smell good, just be aware that if there's a lot of fragrance in it, it may irritate your dog's skin. Maybe oatmeal shampoo on the pom/bichon, because when fur grows back from a cut like that it can be a bit itchy!

No, there's no human shampoo that's good for dogs, they're too harsh. You should get dog shampoo - any kind with oatmeal in it is excellent. And the breed of dog doesn't matter at all.

As for your little dog's butchered hair cut, you should just wait for it to grow out some, then let someone evenly trim it. Don't let your brother use human clippers on her again ok, it's too easy for her to get skin burn!

Apple scented Dawn... It's what they use when rescuing wildlife. My vet actually recommended it.

ONLY DOG SHAMPOO....NEVER USE HUMAN SHAMPOO ON A DOG IT WILL CAUSE SKIN IRRITATION.

GO TO YOUR LOCAL PET STORE AND THEY WILL ADVISE YOU ON WHAT TO GET FOR YOUR DOGS.

J%26amp;J or any human shampoo is too harsh. For the greyhound I would definitely use an oatmeal or conditioning dog shampoo as their skin is so prone to drying out. I think this must be for the pic discussed earlier so for the pom I would probably put on the onesie and just blow dry or fluff the hair around her face.

You can even use your own shampoo to bath a dog. The baby shampoo will not burn their eyes like other shampoos do.

Daisy needs to be brushed out real real good, to the point that you can run a comb through her coat. If she is matted when you bathe her the mats will just get worse %26amp; harder to get out. So make sure she is brushed out REAL good before you get her wet.

The brush out is important for the curly coated dogs.

You "can" use no more tears on your dog, most vets say it is safe, but I find you get better results with a product for dogs only. The breed really doesn't matter unless you have any coat issues or need a conditioning product for your dogs fur and skin. Honestly, the nice smelling ones will be more likely to irritate your dogs skin and just because you like the smell, doesn't mean your dog will think much of it. If you need to remove any doggy smell when you bathe you pup, try using a bit of white vinegar in the final rinse water instead as it will help kill some of the oder. You can also try sprinkling a bit of baking soda(helps neutralize smell) or corn starch(great for absorbing oils in the fur that hold smells and helps with disentangling knots) on your dog when you brush him out right before his bath for the same reasons.

Baby shampoo is actually very drying, and should be avoided, as should other shampoos made for humans. I use a product made to put in the eyes to protect in case of drips, just in case.

Dawn is frequently used by wildlife rescuers to remove oil from oil spills.

There are many good dog shampoos out there that work well and smell nice. I've yet to find anything in retail stores that I'd buy, for several reasons, so I buy professional grooming products online. I bathe my two (Standard Poodles) weekly, and need a product that rinses out easily (LOTS of hair), and comes in gallon containers! My favorite hair products (also fine in cross use for humans, dogs, horses, etc.), are made by EQyss (with whom I have no affiliation). Their Mega-Tek Rebuilder (conditioner) is a fabulous dematting product, great for dry noses, dry, cracked pads (and brittle human fingernails), is also used to stimulate hair growth for cancer patients undergoing chemo.
