Getting Rid of Pet Hair and Dander in the air?

My husband and I have two 1-yr old mixed breed dogs. We believe they are part lab, part chow. We love them to death, but we have been fighting their pet hair since they turned about 6 months. We vacuum, and sweep, and brush. But we were still horrified one day to reach for a cereal box and find dog hair on top of the fridge. We are now expecting a baby and are desperately looking for a solution. We are considering getting a few air filters and adding them to our arsenal. Any suggestions? Oh, the dogs primarily sleep in the kitchen, because that is the only room in the house that is not carpeted. We do, however, find dog hair in other rooms due to our tracking it around.

Hi there. Here's how we solved the problem, and it worked so well we've shared all of this with other dog owners and they say it's changed their lives!

First, we keep a high quality air filter on our home's air handler (central AC) and we change it EVERY 30 days. It's a filtrete filter made by 3M, with a 1000 rating.

Then we purchased an IQ Air Healthpro air purifier for the home (iqair.com). It's hospital-grade and keeps the air absolutely clean of impurities and odors. It's a hefty cost, but well worth it for my husband's allergies.

And last, but MOST importantly, we bought the FURminator for our shedding dogs (furminator.com). Watch the little video on their website. The FURminator pulls ALL of the shedding fur off a dog. Get one (about $45), go outside, and start brushing. You'll get a PILE of fur off your dog. Do that monthly and you'll have no more fur in the house and you'll have a very HAPPY dog!

Dog hair isn't going to hurt a baby.

Brush your dog daily, vacuum daily and feed a better quality dogfood.. Add Omega 3 oils to the diet.

If you are so worried about dog hair, how come you just leave them in the room that all the food is kept, where all the cooking is done?

Give them their own crates w/ blankets inside. And wask them weekly. Vacuum the crate out..
