My dogs came home from California with fleas (we do not have them where I live) and I took them to the groomer's who gave them a bath with flea shampoo or whatever they do and proceeded to tell me she did not see any fleas in their fur nor come up to the surface in the water (however, i am POSITIVE they had fleas, as i caught several on them and before taking them in). Well I vacuumed my house, did all the laundry, etc. I know there still may be some in the carpet and I need to do something else, however, my one dog is scratching exactly like he did before he went in. He is biting soooo badly around his butthole (for lack of a better word) and the top of his tail where it connects to his butt. He rarely scratches or bites elsewhere (sometimes) However, I have not noticed any fleas this time. Could this just be skin irritation or could the fleas be back that quickly and hiding ? haha. he is a white dog, but has medium length hair. thanks
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
I always wonder why they STILL do Flea Dips!!
Not to be critical of your choice, but would YOU bathe in pesticides???
When there are so many safer flea products out there, why would you choose this?
I hope your dog feels better soon :(
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
yes, any flea killing product is a pesticide and dogs as well as other animals can have reactions to certain brands or all in general.
get to a vet soon to treat him.
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
Yep sure could have. Take him to the vet.
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
absolutely it could be bothering his skin and one treatment is never enough- see the vet for something long term, takes a couple of months to be certain.
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
If he's biting in the same spot, there may not be fleas, but it could be a flea bite dermatitis. It could, also, be the flea dip. Dips contain pesticides which can be irritating to any dog's skin. You can get any residue from the dip, etc., out by bathing your dog again with a little bit of dawn liquid soap. It will remove any residue of the flea dip.

Yes
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
Couple possibilities. First is the flea dip which is highly irritating and toxic and most people don't use it anymore to control fleas - treatment with Frontline Plus or Advantage is far less irritating and toxic and far more effective.
Second, your dog may have flea allergy dermatitis - an allergic reaction to flea bites that may take several days to settle down after the fleas are gone.
What I'd do is go to the vet and get a one-month dose of Frontline Plus or Advantage for the dogs and treat them to make sure all the fleas are for certain gone - it works for 30 days. Even one flea left can cause flea allergies. If that doesn't work, I'd try bathing them about 72 hours after treatment (to make sure you don't wash off the treatment before it has a chance to work).

Are they moving their butt along the floor as well? This happens a lot when they bite in that general area. They could need their anal glands cleaned. My dog does the same thing (biting) when he needs his done.
Good luck.

It may be the flea dip...But those don't work well anyway. I wwould try washing him. Then I ould take him to the vet. They could give him something for his skin if it's irritated.

I know exactly what your dog needs %26amp; that is either Frontline Plus or Advantage Plus. You don't need the vet for that. Go to a pet store %26amp; ask for it. My dogs are 11 %26amp; 7. I have used these products with great success over the years. Cleaning the house will not do it. This product kills eggs, lice fleas, pregnant fleas, the works. It costs around $55.00 by me %26amp; I live in New York. Good luck with your doggy.
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
May not be fleas but some kind of lice. Bathe the dogs yourself in a dog flee shampoo ask at a pet shop but most normall dog shampoos will do the trick.
Could the flea dip have irritated my dog's skin?
Yes, it is a very harsh pesticide to kill the fleas and their eggs. Ask your dog groomer or vet for a solution. They may give the dog a bath in some type of gentle shampoo and know how to make him feel better.
