is it true if a dog sheds and u breath its hair in too much ull have an allergy to dogs? if it is true how do i avoid getting allergies to dogs because i LOVE dogs and i want to be a vet some day :D

no i have heard that when ya grow up with animals it less likely for u to have problems with the dander. in a study or something i don't remember!

I have never heard this one and I have had dogs all my life. There are two large ones asleep on my bed now. And the German Shepard sheds a lot! Love your dogs. Have a great career as an animal vet!

actually, the opposite is true... studies show that people who grow up with animals in the home have fewer allergies than people who don't

I don't think you can avoid getting any allergy, but I also don't think you can acquire an allergy to dogs by breathing their hair.

allergies are very interesting, you can develope them at any time in your life and actulally how they work is...say you breath in something like pet dander, most people's bodies will recongise it as a non threat and leave it alone, but for someone who has an allergy to the dander your body attacks the particle and then wants to get rid of it (hence sneezing and other allergy symptoms) so there really is not any way of saying weather you will get allergies or not. but if the fateful day comes that you realize that you are allergic to dogs, all you have to do is take an allergy pill! or if it gets bad enough you can get allergy shots, which is when they inject you with what you are allergic to so that you can develope an immunity to it. i didnt get bad allergies til i was about 14 or 15 and they were common everyday things, so you might not necessarily be immune to something and can still become allergic, but for real no worries....the allergies suck and all but they are very easily treatable and are not stopping me from going to vet school! (and yes i have animal allergies that were treated with shots and pills)

If you already have a pre-disposition to allergies it's possible you could develop an allergy if you were around too much dog hair. However, it's unlikely.

In fact, studies have proven that children who grow up around animals tend to have less allergies than those that are raised in an animal-free zone!

Don't worry, if you love animals and want to be a vet, there's no reason to think being around dog hair is going to cause you a problem. Good luck with your ambitions!
