I cut my dog?

I was cutting my dogs hair, she had horrible mats, and I accidentally cut her on the very top, where her leg begins when she moved. It barely bled at all, but it is like a flap of skin about 1/2 inch long, it looks like I can peel it back. I cleaned it with special dog wound cleaner, but have no more left. Does she need to see a vet/get stiches, or just care for it by cleaning it? Does it need to be bandaged? It is NOT a deep wound, I can kind of see another layer of skin under it, it is all white. What should I do?

I cut my dog?

If it's not deep I wouldn't think so but give your vet a quick call and see what he thinks.

I cut my dog?

ewww

lol ask the docter

i prefer to leave it alone for a day or so

I cut my dog?

Please take her to the Vet just to be safe better safe then sorry but do not beat yourself up about just get her to the vet quickly please

I cut my dog?

have her go get stiches. NOW!!! poor doggie. :(

I cut my dog?

Going to your vet would be the safest option

I cut my dog?

she will take care of it herself, as long as its not deep and bleeding

I cut my dog?

You should take your dog to the vet just to make sure its ok.

I cut my dog?

why did the dog have mats

I cut my dog?

Turn yourself in!

Actually, you should just call your vet and ask them. I'm sure your dog will be fine. You might have to put a small bandage wrap over it.

I cut my dog?

if it isnt bleeding, and isnt getting infected[getting red around the outside,or pussing] i would let it scab over and heal on its own.

I cut my dog?

You have to take her to the vet to get antibiotics. Anytime your dog gets any sort of cut like this that is what you have to do. The wound itself might not need anymore attention, but you MUST get antibiotics to prevent it from getting infected. Otherwise, it will infected, and it will get much much worse and could severely harm your dog. My dog got a cut that was not that bad near the bottom of her foot that I didnt see, and it ended up getting infected and it tripled in size and she lost her fur. Thankfully I noticed before it was too late and I was able to get her antibiotics to clear it up. Please take your dog to the vet.

I cut my dog?

Call the vet and ask them. And I would bandage it so it won't get infected

I cut my dog?

Take her to the vet,if it's not to bad she'll clean the wound and charge you a small fee for the office visit.

And next time you let your dog get mats, shave her.

I cut my dog?

You should leave alone for a day or two the n if doesn't get better then you should take her to the vet.

I cut my dog?

Just keep the wound clean. Leave it open to air and let it dry out between cleanings. You can wash it gently with warm water and soap (be sure to rinse the soap out). If you are worried about infection, put a tiny bit of Triple antibiotic ointment (Neosporin) on it. Yes, it is safe for dogs. Don't worry. It will be fine. You didn't do anything dreadful or anything that groomers don't do every so often. It happens. To your dog, it felt like a sharp pinch. At this point it doesn't hurt your dog at all.

I cut my dog?

If the bleeding is stopped, and it didn't bleed much, it's probably okay. Keep a close eye on it the next few days, though. It's tough getting those mats out, they get so tight and so close to the skin, that cutting the dog's skin is so easy to do.

I cut my dog?

don't peel it back that would hurt. if you have super glue put the skin back in place (make sure any bleeding has stopped) and just close it up by putting just a drop or two to hold it there. if you have some neosporin put that on. dogs are very resilient.

I cut my dog?

eek dude get her stitches ASAP

I cut my dog?

The layer that you can see underneath is the muscle layer, You shoul purchase a produce called Dermaclens this will promote healing, it should heal in a few days. If it looks inflamed, red, or has a discharge you need to got to the vet asap.

I cut my dog?

You likely need to take her to the vet to have it looked at and possibly stitched but the fact is you are likely not going to take her tonight so they won't stitch it tomorrow but will clean and hopefully dress it and such -- basically dear, you don't need to be trying to 'cut out' mats. You need to take the poor dog to the groomers, get her completely shaved down and then as her hair starts growing back, properly care for her by either brushing her well daily to prevent future mats or keeping her regularly (as in monthly) shaved down so you don't let her get in this deplorable condition again. Would you allow your child to go with its hair unbrushed so that its hair matted and then hack out the matts? If you can't properly care for the coat then maybe allowing a breed rescue or shelter to rehome her where someone can properly care for her would be the best thing to do. Why do people get animals that are coated and then not properly care for them and why do they do something they are incapable of doing (removing mats) without knowing what they are doing and then injuring their animal, will come on the internet instead of contacting the vet? I used to get people bringing their hacked up dogs to our grooming shop all the time... how horrible to chop chunks out of dogs and then not even seek proper medical attention... geez...

I suppose they get their medical training at the same place they get their grooming education... :( poor animals...

i think you'll only need to see a vet if it wont get better in about a week, it becomes infected, or it shows no signs of getting better. to clean it up make sure your hands and instruments are clean. Starting at the edges of a fresh wound, clip the hair back to enlarge the area. Cleanse the edges of the wound with a damp gauze or pad. Irrigate the wound with clean tap water. Apply antibiotic ointment. Bandage as described below.

Older wounds with a covering of pus and scab are cleansed with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or a surgical soap. Blot dry. Apply antibiotic ointment ~ Dressings over infected wounds should be changed frequently to aid in the drainage of pus, and to allow you to apply fresh ointment.~

- A method of applying a foot bandage for a lacerated pad. Tape loosely to allow good circulation.

- A sock slipped over a gauze square is a good bandage for ease of dressing change. %26lt;%26lt;%26lt; only if it NEEDS to be bandaged.

(I think if it's nothing worth bandageing you should just clean it and leave it alone.)

If you still don't know, you could call your vet and don't hesitate to ask questions. thats what there there for.

I cut my dog?

Going to the vet is always the best option when you are not sure. A while ago, I was worried about my cat because she was wheezing all the time. She breathed really heavily even during normal activities, like jumping on the bed or pushing open the bathroom door. I took her to the vet and it turned out she had a hairball that was stuck, and they gave her medicine to get it out. Hours after we came home, she was outside throwing it up. It's always a good idea to take them to the vet.

I cut my dog?

It depends on the enviroment the dog is in. If it is a normal back yard or house she shouldn't get an infection. Bleeding is a good sign that the cut self cleaned itself and if the bleeding has stopped it should heal okay., Just make sure it stays clean and any antibiotic will work on it. Just keep her from licking it and keeping the wound moist. If it gets infected you will know, then seek a vets help. Don't let it go too long if it does look like it is getting infected. But it should be okay..

You can buy a brush at wal-mart for $4.98 that will safely and gently remove the mats from her hair just by running it through her hair. No pulling just gentle strokes and the mats will free themselves pain free. It is short and looks similar to a garden rake. It has small metal teeth in a single row. All you do is run it through the hair and it separates the mats and they stick to the brush.

Good luck
