How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

My wife and I have a miniature rat terrior she is and always will be an inside dog. She sheds so much and none of the shampoos work! Anything else I can do so my house is not covered in dog hair?

All dogs shed, nothing we can do about it. Unfortunately, there is no majic solution to it. No shampoo will help either. Sorry...

you may be able to find something at you r local pet store to stop or slow it down besides that i don't think there is anything you can do for it

it takes some time but brushing or combing.. lots of outdoor petting.. nothing you can do to stop it..

Don't waste anymore money on a magic remedy , they are just stealing from you.

Quit bathing her all the time. Feed a better quality dog food and add Omega 3 oils to her diet.

You apparently didn't research the breed before getting it. Dogs shed; there's nothing you can do to change this. Your best bet is to vacuum more frequently. It's a pain, but welcome to dog ownership.

Assuming she does not have some type of illness or skin condition that is causing her to drop her coat, there's not much to keep her from shedding. We try to brush our dogs outside everyday and leave them a little time to shake off the loose hair so it doesn't all fall in the house. Have also got a shedding blade in our grooming basket, works wonders to get all the loose hairs off. If you are washing her too often, you may be drying her skin out and causing more harm than good.

Sometimes switching to a better quality food can help. Look for something with human grade ingredients and no fillers (like corn).

Beside that, daily brushing will keep much of the hair on the brush and off other things.

Do not over bathe your dog. That increases shedding. Once a month is plenty (unless he gets dirty).

Brushing daily helps.

A good diet helps even more.

A postal employee told me about a brush she bought online and said it STOPPED shedding of her dog completely. She said she went from vacuuming twice a week to twice a month! I have 3 large, long haired dogs and a cat, so although it was expensive, I put the money down and tried this miracle brush. It is amazing, it was worth every cent (it costs me $48 for each dog to go to the groomers) and has changed everything! I wish I had this brush years ago! It really does get rid of all the undercoating - my dogs all look healthier with shiny smooth coats, and best of all, barely any hair in the house now! I love this brush! It sounded too good to be true, but it wasn't, I am so happy to say. It's called Furminator and I got mine on ebay but they are also on amazon and lots of websites. Also, I personally bathe my dogs once a month and rinse them off in apple cider vinegar (then do not rinse that off, as it is great for the dry skin and coat). Between those 2 suggestions, you should be set with your dog!

You can't stop a dog from shedding, but with proper coat care you can keep it under control.

There are a few products out there that you can add to their food that is supposed to help with shedding. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is a product called Linatone.

Nothing can stop the dog from shedding dogs shed naturally. They are getting rid of extra fur. The only thing I know of that can slow down shedding is brushing it once or twice a day.

Try putting a little flax seed oil in the food. That was recommended by my vet and it did work. Nothing will stop shedding but you can reduce it by the flax seed oil, using a anti-shed shampoo and regular brushing.
