What dog breed is best for me?

What dog breed is best for someone who is allergic to dog hair, wants low hair maintenance %26amp; a good companion? I also want a dog that is small enough for me to pick up.

i would prefer chihuahua...since it doesnt have much hair and its very tiny.

What dog breed is best for me?

One of those little chinese crested hairless dogs. They only have a little tuft of hair on their heads and their tails, so they're very good for people with allergies.

What dog breed is best for me?

a Pomeranian! I am allergic to dogs to, but I got my Pomeranian and very rarely have additional allergy problems. My pommy doesn't shed very much, I bathe him once a week and I keep his dog bed clean, i throw it in the wash about once a week, I change my bedding once a week and vacume regularly and NO problems!!!! He is 4 lbs, and he wears a shirt which helps to. I think the bigger the dog the more dander so the more allergies.

Poodles are hypo-allergenic, so anything mixed with poodle might be a good breed for you. A miniature poodle is cute and small enough to pick up, hypo-allergenic, and come in a few different colors.

Here are some other hypo-allergenic dogs.

Chihuahua

Bichon Frise

Irish Terrier

Portuguese Water Dog

poodles are the best guess i think, but you should try being around a poodle before you know if you tolerate it. the thing is, they don't shed, that's also the reason why you have to have them shaved regularly, but other than that (especially if you don't want one of those fluffy show cuts) they're not high-maintenance... poodles are very smart dogs and very loyal, make great companions and aren't fussy. (they were originally hunting dogs, bred to retrieve waterfowl for the hunters!)

talk to breeders and owners to learn more baout any breed before you go ahead and buy/adopt one!

Poodles are a good choice as their coats are classified as "wool", and they do not shed as much. If, however, you decide on a small dog like a chihuahua or other miniature breeds, be advised that they yap A LOT. It seems that the smaller the dog, the more they yap. I don't know about you, but I don't have the patience for it!

I used to have a poodle. They don't shed but they do need to be trimmed every once in a while so that their coats don't mat. They can be very good companions and depending on the breed, small enough to pick up. The smaller ones range in weight from 3-5 pounds.

What dog breed is best for me?

a yokie because they have good personalities, dont shed much, and if you keep it with a puppy cut it wont need too much grooming the only bad thing is that they are VERY VERY active and if you dont have some time they could get very bored and lonely.

I would share my opion and say a Maltese. Maltese generally only weigh up to eight pounds. These dogs do not shed and do not drool. The only thing is you have a 50/50 chance of getting a real sweetheart or a yappy dog. These dogs only have one problem and that would having to brush them maybe daily or unless you trimmed them once a week or every two weeks. Some may mention the Chinese Crested and yes these are great dogs but because of lack of fur they have high mantnence with skin care. Maltese not only are shedless dogs but they were kept only by royalty in older times. Even if you find an eight pound to large there are tea cup Maltese weighing two-five pounds. Maltese are great dogs to own and I know because of my mothers dog. I grew up with this dog named Victoria and I know she is still a great dog. I guess one of the best qualities of a Maltese would be their lifespan. most live to be 18 or 19 but some live 20+ years of age. If you decide on this dog t is important to know your breeder as with any dog. Also try to meet the puppy's mother and posibly father. This will help tell you if you will get a sweetheart or a yappy pup. Finally many of my friends who alergic to dogs have never sneezed while Victoria was in the room. They are truely amazing dogs.

~Hope this Helps~ =)

Pet allergies are to dander and not to the shedding. No amount of fur, or the lack of will cause you to have an allergic reaction. The best way to help your allergies is to give your dog a bath 1-2 times a month (no more than twice monthly, or it will dry out your dogs skin and cause the dander to get worse) with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner made specifically for dogs whose people are allergic. You can also try a product called Nature's Miracle. It is available through Dr's. Foster and Smith.

Your allergies should not determine the breed you get. You should look for a breed that fits your lifestyle. A good place to start is animal planet's dog breed directory. It can be found at animalplanet.com. You can also go to akc.org. You should also consider getting a mixed breed dog that contains the breed you are most interested in. Many shelters will notify you if they get in a breed you are specifically looking for. You can also look on petfinder.com for specific breeds looking for a forever home.

Good luck with both your allergies and your search for a new dog!
