Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I had my dog for seven months and have grown attached to her she even sleeps in the same bed with me. my mom has told me that the dog hair will have a bad affect of my unborn baby is this true.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I think it's ok unless you're allergic to it.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

i don't know but wouldn't you rather have a baby? Report It

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Its fine. That is just a mom talking. I have had 3 babys and Im pregnant with my 4th and have always had 3 or 4 cats and a dog, and everyone here was born just fine and healthy.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

not unless u are allergic to the dog.

the dog should be okay but may get jealous after the baby comes.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Your dog is fine - I have 2 cats that shed like crazy and my baby is fine. She loves my cats and they love her too!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

No! I've always had dogs being pregnant and around babies.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

That is 100% untrue. Call a doctor if you are concerned.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Yes , I think its safe while you are pregnant. But, remember this, as an infant, a cat took my breath away and I had to be rushed to the hospital. The cat was simply after the milk, but he sufficated me. Just be careful with pets around your infant. They don't mean any harm, but sometimes things happen.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

No, it's not true. It's an old wives tale just like the one that says if you touch an animal while you're pregnant the baby will look like the animal you touched.

The only way dog hair can be harmful to the baby is if you have an allergic reaction to the dog hair and usually it's the dog's saliva that is the allergen.

Don't worry about the dog, they are great for being a friend through the pregnancy and when the baby is born and grows up with the dog, that dog will protect the baby from harm.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

You should be fine, just make sure when the baby comes you don't leave the dog and baby alone in the same room together.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Totally safe as long as you stop letting the dog sleep in your bed right now (buy her a dog bed and teach her to stay off the furniture) and start taking the dog around kids so she gets used to them. The dog hair is no issue....just a pain because when the baby starts crawling, the baby will have dog hair everywhere! :)

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

well. im 32 weeks pregnant, and have 5 dogs. dog hair is all over the couch and ive been around these dogs the whole time ive been pregnant. ive had a very uneventful pregnancy (which is a very good thing) and my dr says that everything about the baby is perfectly healthy and normal. so no, i dont think having a dog will hurt anything. just be careful if you have to pick up poop or anything. its the bacteria in that, that could hurt either you or the baby. good luck w/ your pregnancy!!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Not true at all - i have 2 dogs and 2 cats, both my girls are very very healthy and so am i and this unborn baby!

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I just had a baby in December and my husband has two dogs that he has had for like ten years. I was afraid of the same thing you are but he would NOT part with them because he is also attached. They really pose no threat to you or your baby, unless you are allergic which you aren't. Don't worry about it after your baby is born either, it is very rare to see pet allergies in newborns. Thats what my pediatrician said. I had a lot of concern because my dogs are disgusting, they have hair everywhere, actually one of them is almost bald.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

having a dog is perfectly safe during pregnancy. so is almost any other animal for that matter. the only thing Ive heard is if you own a cat dont change the litter box.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Your mom is probably concerned about the dog licking your face. As long as the dog doesn't have a disease that is contagious to humans, you'll be fine.

And of course it's probably best that the dog doesn't lick your face shortly after going to the bathroom.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

I have 2 dogs, a pit bull and a min pin. Had them with my first and now my second. There is nothing wrong with having a dog while pregnant.

Is it safe to have a dog while I'm Pregnant?

Yes, it is completely safe to have a dog while pregnant. In fact, studies show that children that are raised around cats have less chances of having asthma. Also, children that are in households with pet dander have less allergies.

However, there are things you should do to prepare your dog for baby's arrival. An excellent article on this topic is located here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article...

It explains things to do before and after your baby is born to ensure a happy adjustment.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

i am looking for a small dog, hair is white and is going to stay small i want him/her to be calm also. any tips on what kind of dog i should get would be Awesome. Thanks

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Only breed that comes to mind, is the West Highland White Terrier (aka ''Westies'')

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/westhighland...

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Yeah. Do your research. White, small, calm. Maybe a stuffed animal?

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

You should get a beagle or a lab.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

dachshund! they always stay small, they dont have white hair tho

but there are so friendly!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Check out your local shelter!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

My dog is a miniature Jack Russell.. He's calm and small, and he's all white, except for his head.

He's great with people of all ages.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

It is very difficult to find a small dog that is calm. I would recommend a toy poodles. They are small, come in white, and are relatively calm. Go to http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/ to research breeds they also categorize them by size, exercises level, and other things. You should probably get an adult dog if you want a calm dog. No puppy is calm. It doesn't matter what breed. You should consider rescuing one, even if you do decide to get a puppy or young dog. Go to http://www.petfinder.com/ to find one that you can rescue.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

maltese, they are white and their coat is silky white not curly but they do require grooming, they are breed that stays under 10 pounds, coton de tulear a larger rarer toy breed that can get to 15 pounds is claimed to be dander and oil free coat as is the maltese it coat does not require clipping and sheds very little, some pomeranians come white they are light weight and small like the maltese but prone to be very yippy but there yip isn't real loud, then there's the toy poodle easy to find, all around smart little dog requires chipping, coat has low dander but is sometimes oily.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

small dogs are all hyper and bark constantly and chase there tails.... get a cat

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

You can try a mini or toy poodle. They are small and come in white. The smaller the dog the less calm though. Admittedly my two mini poodles are still puppies, so they may mellow a bit with age, but they are really anything but calm. They love to sit on your lap but at least once every night they have to run laps around the whole house for at least 10 minutes. Their parents were the same way, so I don't hold out much hope of mellowing. When you find a breed you like ask to see the parents. A good breeder should at least have the mother available. Mine acts exactly like his mother, so it really is a good indicator of future behavior.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Westies, Bichon Frises (although I have found them hard to train), Toy Poodles, any toy breed really. There is no breed that is predisposed to being "calm." All dogs are different. It depends on the environment and the training.

You may want to consider adopting a mixed breed from your local shelter, or better yet, do an internet search for local breed-specific rescue organizations. They are far better at spending time matching a dog's personality to a human's.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Westies, as someone said before, and some Miniature Schnauzers are whitish - although it's not part of the standard.

These dogs are terriers, though, so they will not be too "calm," unless you've just worn them out. Terriers are notoriously smart and fiesty. Don't get me wrong, terrier fans LOVE this, but if it doesn't sound like your thing, then it probably isn't.

There are many toy breeds that will stay small and are at least partially white: Shih-Tzus, Lhasa Apsos, Bichon Frises, Papillons... but THEY ARE STILL DOGS. They still need training and playtime. Many people think their little dogs acting neurotic can't be fixed with training and attention, like bigger dogs.

My advice is to check out your local shelters and rescues and get an adult dog. Puppies are anything but calm. Adult dogs are more mellow. When you get a dog, tell the staff at the shelter/rescue what you are HONESTLY looking for. They should help you find a friend.

Good luck!

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Maltese-white-small

Westhighland terrier.white-small

not sure how many others sorry Know more about medium to large dogs.

American eskimo dogs are beautiful who could resist but there medium not small but you should still take a little look.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

A Maltese or a Bichon would be a great dog for you. They are relatively small dogs, not more than 15 or 20lbs they arent overly active like Jack Russells, but arent slugs either. They dont have back problems like the Dachsunds but are prone to eye problems, and Luxating patellas( where the knee slips out of place, fairly common in small dogs, generally not a problem but depends on the severity of the disease.) They are white and have hair, not fur like most dogs, but they DO shed just not like a dog, its more like how people shed and if you dont keep them groomed they can develop mats. They can have allergy problems just like people and since their fur is white they may develop the tear stains but you can just wash that away. All in all a Bichon or a Maltese would be a great dog for you, and you can often find them in rescues, try www.petfinder.com

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

Some of the best dogs are the mixed breed dogs. They are usually very even tempered. Check at a shelter or ask around your neighborhood. If you are looking for a puppy, get ready for some uncalm days. Puppies are very active and anything but calm. It sounds like you may want an older dog, a year or two old. Again, check a shelter. There are so many doge there in need of a good home.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

a chihuahua they are great but you have to know how to look after them and have monie they don't come cheep.

they are lovely dogs!

i'm getting one on friday yipppiiiii

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

how small ? how active r u ? ANY SMALL CHILDREN? terriers tend to be very active and/or hyper jack russell, schnauzer, westie, on the smaller side a maltese or bischon have good temperments needs grooming though scotties are mellow and french bulldogs are good and calm there is always a poodle or mix of any at any shelter or aspca that make great pets

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

maybe a maltese, westie, but before you adopted please do research.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I have a toy poodle. She is not calm, and is very active. My aunt has a maltese and it runs all over the place. Small and white is easy to find. Temperament is something that varies with every dog and is not necessarily associated with any breed. I suggest adopting an adult dog from a shelter. With an adult dog, you know what temperament the dog has developed. When adopting a puppy, outside of training it, you never know what you could get. Also, I do not recommend toy dogs if you have small children. They tend to be scared easily and could bite in their defense. Also, a small child doesn't understand how fragile a 8lb dog can be and can easily hurt it.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I think you should get a Bichon Frise it is exactly what you want. Trust me PLZ.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

I don't think there are any small white dogs that STAY small. But, I know that chihuha stays small. I don't think there are any white, though.

I was wondering what type of dog i should get?

get a mixed breed!! theyre ALWAYS the nicest! and cheap!!! pure breeds seem to always have annoying little problems...

My poor little dog has a problem..?

my dog has been losing patches of hair and she seems to have a rash over her body.. I started giving her Benadryl and her hair seems to be growing back.. however, under her throat and her neck/chest there is no hair.. and it also seems inflamed.. she's almost eleven years old and she's a beagle. I'm concerned if something else could be wrong with her. I figure she was having an allergic reaction to something. she has a history of allergies.. but I'm worried that the hair isn't growing back on her throat and chest.. just doesn't seem right? anybody know anything that could be wrong with her? or that could help?

My poor little dog has a problem..?

My dog had similiar symptoms. I really didn't have the money to take her to the vet, so I set out to treat her. I used Desitin diaper rash ointment, neosporin, athletes foot cream and anti-itch cream. I did this for about a week and she looks like a different dog. Her hair is coming back and she has stopped scratching and digging her skin. I also made sure I treated her for fleas and ticks and I used Vinegar for that. It keeps the fleas and ticks off with the smell of it. (Just make sure you don't spray it on any open wounds, it burns). Anyway, I thought I would try these things before I paid a vet to do it. Worked like magic!

My poor little dog has a problem..?

Your dog has mange or ringworm. Plz get your pup to the vet!! Oh I;m so sorry.

My poor little dog has a problem..?

I Say Take Her To The Veternarians Office ASAP

My poor little dog has a problem..?

Yeah, that sounds like mange to me. Better get to the vet, pronto!

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

It doesn't have to be big, just a little beagle or something.

How can I convince them?

Whenever I ask them these things are what they say:

"They're too hard to take care of, and I bet you would NEVER take them for a walk, and they poop and pee all over the house."

"I don't even like dogs" (mom)

"They leave hair everywhere"

"You can get one once you move out and have your own place"

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

Pretend to be a burglar

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

What you could do is promise swear to them that every day you would give time to the dog etc. Leaving hair everywhere get a short haired dog...like a jack russel terrior, they barley leave hair any where!

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

do extra chores.it works

How can I convince my parents to get a dog?

Make life sound better with a dog (which it definitely is).

They are a lot of work to take care of, but if you put some time into researching the breed you want, then they will see that you are already spending time on the dog. A great site with lots of information is www.breederretriever.com. Also, look into groomers, vet clinics, and training schools. Make your parents see that you are serious, and don't give up. As soon as you give up they will think you are bored of the idea.

Also, start going for walks on your own. After a week of going for walks on your own start telling them that it would be nice to have a dog as a walking partner.

Start giving your mom some funny facts about dogs, all the the things dogs can do, exciting information on particular breeds that you have been researching. Also, you can start posting pictures of really cute puppies everywhere (unless this annoys your parents).

Look into breeds that don't shed very much and breeds that are hypoallergenic. Poodles, wheatons, and shih tzus may be good options. Terriers, shepherds, and retrievers tend to be major shedders in comparison to some other breeds.

Good luck!

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I never liked dog clothes and bows in their hair- until I got my shih-tzu. Her hair is always in her eyes if it's not tied up, and she freezes and shivers outside if I don't put a doggy-shirt on her to go potty!!! (And, she looks adorable!)

But then there are people who use their dogs as accessories. I'm actually going to give a presentation on this for my public speaking class in school next week. Any thoughts would help!

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I have a schnauzer/poodle mix and I thought he would look absolutely adorable in this little blue sweater I bought. When I got home I attempted to put in on him, of course with a struggle. I thought he looked silly and the look I got from him was "you're kidding, right?" He flung himself against the furniture and walls trying to get it off. I took it off of him and returned it the same day. When I had him groomed, the groomer put a little scarf around his neck he didn't bother it, so he'll ocassionally wear a scarf.

Dogs are a huge part of our lives, they are our family. We shouldn't treat a dog as a child and dress it up in little outfits. I can understand if your dog needs it meaning if it's a smaller dog and it needs to keep warm. It's gotten so blown out of porportion and people have begun to go crazy with it. Does your Golden really need a sweater? No.

A dog is not an accessory. If you want to play dress up I suggest purchasing a baby doll. Again, I understand some dogs need a little sweater. I am seeing shoes for dogs that are not boots, pajamas and dresses. It's stupid. Your dog doesn't need jammies. It also drives me mad that people drag their dog with them to the store in their little purse carrier, the dog is squashed in while the owner shops. It doesn't make sense to me.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

i dont agree with poeple dresseing their pets up, the coats to keep them warm in the winter thats fine but when they put clothes on them and start to put sunglasses and hats and things on dogs i dont agree with it.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think 'abuse' is a little too strong a word, unless the clothing is too tight or is not allowing them to walk.

Mischa Barton using her dog as a purse - that was borderline abuse.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

tell you opinion..why you are oppose to it. Understand the opposition's point of view. Do your homework...we are not going to do it for you.

Good luck

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

It's abuse if there is something about the clothes that can choke or strangle the dog, like a sweater that goes over the head without Velcro closures, or strings dangling off a dog "hoodie".

Typing up the hair makes sense, as do dog blankets IF the animal must be groomed in a way that leaves his hair too short for protection (I mean the kind that look like horse blankets, not little human jackets that come in pet size sold in pet stores.)

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think there are far more important dog owner issues than dressing your dog.How about puppy mills supplying dogs to pet stores

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

As long as it is fun for the dog, then okay. I had a dog growing up who didn't mind being dressed up and we had a lot of fun playing together. Now I have 4 dogs and they hate it and get stressed and upset if I put anything on them, so I don't do it anymore.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think it is ok to dress up your animal but it is the people that just put them in their bag and parade them around that make me mad. They can walk. Some people take it to far where you can tell the animal isn't comfortable. You can make you happy by making the animal cute but make the animal happy by keeping it comfortable.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

i don't think dogs care about being dressed up, unless the clothing impedes their movement, is restrictive or is too hot, etc. It seems like people are the ones moralising about it for their own sakes. As long as dogs are well taken care of I can't see the harm. I personally couldn't be bothered but I will put a coat on my dog during winter to keep him warm.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think a dog has a coat there to keep it warm so it shouldn't need anything else. I have a 14 pound rat terrier with really short hair and she enjoys being outside in the winter, she loves the show and we still go for a walk every day unless it's colder than -20 degrees F. She doesn't shiver or need a coat so why should any dog???

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I cant put bows in my doggies hair because their short haired but I too put sweaters on for warmth and it says in my Chihuahua for dummies book to do that to keep them warm.If I dont they will shake, I live in the mountains where its cold, plus yes they look so cute but I think when people wanna pearce dogs ears and all thats pushing it.It can hurt them and people still do it.I would never.Even to look cute it could snag on something and rip the poor dogs ear. That is abuse to me.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I totally agree with you! Dog clothes can be good and bad. If it is to protect them from the cold, then they were an excellent idea. But i hate it when i see people carry around their dog (well except when their dog is tired) but COME ON DOGS HAVE FEET............THEY CAN USE THEM!!! if they wanted to carry around a thing and dress it up so it matches them, GIVE BIRTH TO A KID OR ADOPT ONE!!!!! People today have to learn how to treat their dogs like DOGS and let them be what they want to be. ok FYI..... dogs are dogs- not little babies. i love dogs and i hate to see them being treated like acessories. There is where you draw the line. Like it is OKAY to love your dog and everything, but there is a fine line between acessory and mans best friend - oh and another point MAN'S BEST FRIEND- NOT ACCESSORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for letting me voice my opinion :D :D that felt good- i let it all out! hope it helps for your assignment/ presentation :D

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

Unless your shih tzu is professionally clipped, the hair in front of the eyes has got to be tied up with latex bands. Its up to you what you put on your dog as long as it doesn't restrict her movement or going to potty. Yes, there are some people who take it too far, they start thinking about the health and welfare of the dog first then it moves to cute and then it moves to classy and expensive, that means that the health and welfare of the dog they began with went right out of the window!. They don't care if their dog cannot walk properly or run just as long as they look the biz! This is show off and shouldn't be done. yes, you can buy a doggy shirt or the odd classy collar as long as it doesnt go too far or over-clothed her and it doesn't hurt or restrict the every day lifestyle of the dog.

Hope this helps.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

If it does not physically harm the dog or cause it discomfort I see no problem with it. If it constricts movement, breathing or circulation, then it becomes a problem.

However, putting a frilly pink tutu on a male English bulldog or cane corso is wrong no matter how you look at it.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I think dogs look stupid in some of the getups that people think they gotta have. But like you said a lot of people treat their dogs like a fashion accessory instead of a living breathing creature. My dogs do have little coats for when it is cold out. I have pajamas for one who is very cold natured but he only has to wear them when it is very cold. My dogs sleep in my very large laundry/mud room where I have a little heater to keep them warm. But sometimes the draft comes in under the door anyhow and even though their beds are elevated off the floor a little bit they still get cold, hence the coats. But the coats are functional, meaning that they are made out of a material that doesn't have tiny sequins or lace on it, the material is chosen for it's wearability for the dog. i try to choose materials that don't cause static cling - what dog wants that? I want something that is comforable and wont scratch or irritate. I try to choose materials that will launder and wear well. Cute is good but not a requirement.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and I live in South Dakota, so we have pretty cold winters (its been below zero more this month then it has been above) So both of my dogs have doggie boots and coats for when we go outside. I also do volunteer therapy work with my female Cavalier so she has quite a few different collars and some bandanas that she wears when we go places. I think that dog clothes and accessories are ok as long as they have a purpose. My friend has a Chinese Crested and he has shirts that she puts on him in the winter even when he is inside. Then he has a coat and boots for outside. When people dress thier dog up all the time and cart them around in a little bag or stroller is when I think its too much.

Dog clothes- where is the line drawn from cute to abuse?

A-ha, finally.. a question that interests me!

I also have a Shih Tzu. Trixie has a collection of coats, shirts, bows, barrettes, even her own bag that has all of her "hair stuff" in it. It includes brushes and combs, a MILLION rubber bands for her ponytails, and detangler spray. The moment I pull that bag out, she goes nuts! She runs over and will sit on my lap and hold still, eyes closed. It's like brushing a little girl's hair. Almost creepy, actually. But far from animal abuse.... I don't take her everywhere with me, but she does occasionally get to go "byebye" with me. She will NEVER be carried in a bag or purse, or attached to me while I go jogging, I assure you. Some dogs will let you know..... they either sit still and embrace it or they run away or bite at whatever you are trying to do to them.

She also has a pink suede coat... if I take it off of her and put it down, she goes and lays in it and tries to burrow, almost as if she's putting it back on. :)

Good luck on your presentation.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

She is a pit terrier mix and has the short, coarse hair of a pit bull. The past couple of weeks she has been shedding so much. I'm not normally allergic to dog hair, but it's been making my allergies pretty bad. It's all over the house and on my bed. I bathe her on a weekly basis and purchased a firm brush and a shedding tool to help with the hair loss. She is on a proper diet, is healthy, and up to date on all her shots. So far, nothing has really worked. It's only getting worse and I'm incredibly frustrated!! What should I do?

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

nothing? They need to shed, nothing you can really do. I guess brush his hair outside and i guess you could use some nature's mircale dander remover and deoderizer. You can purchase it for 6-8 dollars. It works very good and keeps my dog smelling fresh.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

your dog will shed no matter what. but you can reduce it by maybe feeding her some coat shining dog food. maybe that will reduce the shedding. but i am just putting in my 2 cents. p.s i have a pit terrier mix, and she is beautiful!!!

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Shave off all the hair.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Try giving her a fish oil capsule. You can get them from your vet. It will make their skin soft. It has worked for my lab.

Are you having extremely hot weather in your area? This could be the cause of it, my lab has shed more this summer than the last two summers in So Cal.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Get the Zoom Groom. It's made by Kong and it does a great job on short haired breeds. I got enough off of my Doberman to knit a sweater!!!! It keeps all the hair from coming off in your house, and they actually like it. If she's healthy and there is no health issues, then it is just a grooming issue. Some dogs shed more at certain times of the year, or even f they are stressed. So just brush her really good with the Zoom Groom. It was about $8 at Petsmart.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Certain times of the year, dogs shed. Ours sheds more when the weather is hot. Just brush him as often as you can. We've had hair flying all over for about a week

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

I use a Shed Ender rake. It works great and gets the top and under coat of my dogs. Just be careful, its sharp.

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

you can try cutting her hair short; I have one that sheds a lot during the summer;

this is mostly normal for dogs to do; if it is excessive then the pet might be sick

What's the best remedy or tool to keep my dog from shedding?

Don't be so lazy - brush her at least once a day to get out all the dead hair. There's no such thing as "stopping" shedding as it's something their bodies normally do. Brushes don't really do much for removing dead hairs - on dogs or cats. Get a steel comb which will remove the loose dead hair MUCH more effectively.

FYI - dog and cat HAIR isn't what people are allergic to - it's the dander. Get your dog a good conditioning shampoo and add some salmon oil to her diet. There's also stuff you can get called "Allerpet" to put on your dog that will help with the dander as well.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

I was invited to the Iditarod in Alaska this March with a friend, but I don't think that I am eligible to compete in this race myself, and this race lasts about ten days.

So, in my time spent waiting for the racers to show up to finish in Nome, I want to do some sled dog racing of my own. I don't have a dog of my own, but the neighbor girl has a Havanese, and I know that she would let me use it.

Her Havanese has short, stubby legs, and it has a lot of hair in its eyes. I would assume that since the limbs are short, this dog would most likey have good circulation compared to a dog with long limbs. Also, the hair would keep the snow out of its eyes.

I would like to make the Havanese the first member of my sledding team if it won't excessively endanger its life.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Yes, a Havanese is the perfect sized dog to be on your team.

It weighs less than 15 pounds so you'll hardly feel the weight of it when you're dragging that heavy sled. Make sure you bring a blanket for it to curl up in so it will be comfy.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Please do not listen to the above answer, as a ,ong time Alaskan I can tell you it sounds like it was written as a JOKE, your dog IS NOT suitable to be in a sled do team for anything else then a quick funny photo. Report It

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

It might survive but DO NOT DO THAT!! Havaneses are tiny little dogs! Not for sled raceing!

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Havanese are NOT sledding dogs! Of course it would kill it.. Sled dogs are bre and raised to be sled dogs and that is all they know all their lives..

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Sure, get a whole team of Havanese! They'll be much lighter for you to pack out on your back when you end up walking.

There's a reason you don't see Havanese Iditarod. It's the same reason you don't see poodles, minipins, afghan hounds, and housecats pulling the sleds. They just aren't suitable.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Are you out of your mind! Your joking, right?

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

Are you serious???

Sled dogs are usually husky mixes (Siberian Husky or Alaskan Malamute). It takes a hardy, long legged, and thick furred dog to survive in those harsh conditions. The dog needs a double coat to stay warm, and long legs so it can make decent time and not wear itself out too much. The smallest sled dog I've seen weighed about 50 pounds or so. A short legged dog has absolutely no place on a sled team, and there's just not too worry about snow in the eyes. A Havanese is meant to be a lap dog. That's what they excel at, and that's what they are bred for.

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

of course

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

you need to spend time, dedication and money on education and experience from seasoned racers if you want to get into this sport, not go round your girlfriends and borrow her free pet dog, that will die miserably out there! For goodness sake, please have some brain cells and humanity

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

i would suggest no thats a bad idea maby when hes like 2 or 3 or so but not now when hes 1

Will a one year old Havanese dog survive if it becomes part of a sled dog team in Alaska this March?

A Havanese is definately NOT intended for this purpose. Please reconsider.

Dog problems?

is it true if a dog sheds and u breath its hair in too much ull have an allergy to dogs? if it is true how do i avoid getting allergies to dogs because i LOVE dogs and i want to be a vet some day :D

Dog problems?

no i have heard that when ya grow up with animals it less likely for u to have problems with the dander. in a study or something i don't remember!

Dog problems?

I have never heard that before!

Dog problems?

False.

Dog problems?

No. It isn't true.

Dog problems?

thats not true! if anything u become more immune to them

Dog problems?

no its not true!! do you get an allergy to air by breathing it too much???

Dog problems?

I have dogs,cats %26amp; birds and no problems. I've never heard of that. Don't worry. Take care:~}

Dog problems?

I have never heard this one and I have had dogs all my life. There are two large ones asleep on my bed now. And the German Shepard sheds a lot! Love your dogs. Have a great career as an animal vet!

Dog problems?

actually, the opposite is true... studies show that people who grow up with animals in the home have fewer allergies than people who don't

Dog problems?

I don't think you can avoid getting any allergy, but I also don't think you can acquire an allergy to dogs by breathing their hair.

Dog problems?

Not true.

Dog problems?

allergies are very interesting, you can develope them at any time in your life and actulally how they work is...say you breath in something like pet dander, most people's bodies will recongise it as a non threat and leave it alone, but for someone who has an allergy to the dander your body attacks the particle and then wants to get rid of it (hence sneezing and other allergy symptoms) so there really is not any way of saying weather you will get allergies or not. but if the fateful day comes that you realize that you are allergic to dogs, all you have to do is take an allergy pill! or if it gets bad enough you can get allergy shots, which is when they inject you with what you are allergic to so that you can develope an immunity to it. i didnt get bad allergies til i was about 14 or 15 and they were common everyday things, so you might not necessarily be immune to something and can still become allergic, but for real no worries....the allergies suck and all but they are very easily treatable and are not stopping me from going to vet school! (and yes i have animal allergies that were treated with shots and pills)

Dog problems?

If you already have a pre-disposition to allergies it's possible you could develop an allergy if you were around too much dog hair. However, it's unlikely.

In fact, studies have proven that children who grow up around animals tend to have less allergies than those that are raised in an animal-free zone!

Don't worry, if you love animals and want to be a vet, there's no reason to think being around dog hair is going to cause you a problem. Good luck with your ambitions!

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

dog got attacked and the result was a three inch patch of fur was ripped out of her tail, no bite marks on it at all, just cuts where the hair was torn out

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

Maybe she got into a fight with another dog or a coyote or maybe a raccoon.

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

Maybe a bird or reptile. Dogs almost always use their teeth when they attack (a cat might also be the cause).

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

maybe it was a toddler!

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

Could have easily been another dog or large cat. Since you didn't say what breed or how big the dog is, it is hard to guess.

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

That is hard to say. There is many things that could rip hair out I hope you find out what it was.

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

I would say another dog or perhaps some wild animal.

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

I really would need more information to guess an answer. Was he confined to your yard? Was there any mowing going on near the dog? Does he like to chase cars, or bark at lawn mowers? Could he have gotten his tail stuck in a gate or something and hurt himself pulling it free?

Why do you say he was attacked? Did you see or witness an attack? If so, what did you see or hear?

I'd be happy to fathom a guess with more info provided.

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

their are many scenarios that could cause that to happen.

another dog perhaps bit him, somehow got his tail stuck somewhere ( when i was a kid we had a cat that had about 4" of its tail chop off when the front door was closed ) the cat was fine

piece of its tail hanging from the door a few inches from the floor

%26gt; i will never forget that

Good Luck / O'WyleeDawg

What would rip a 3 inch chunk of hair off a dogs tail?

Hair on tail probably got stuck in something and she pulled it free.

Why do rednecks pets loose hair so bad?

All the trashy rednecks I know have dogs that are loosing hair on the back half of their bodys, why is this?

Why do rednecks pets loose hair so bad?

Probably not keeping them clean enough. Allowing pests like fleas, mites, and lice to cause issues like hair loss on their pets.

Why do rednecks pets loose hair so bad?

They probably don't take care of them, they might have a lot of fleas, poor diet, and not proper grooming.

Why do rednecks pets loose hair so bad?

They are not caring for the dogs. They probably have mange. People lose their pets for this kind of thing. The humane society will confiscate them.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter

In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight puppies. Six puppies have short hair and two have long hair. What are the genotypes of the parents?

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Obviously, each of them has one Dominant short hair and one recessive long hair gene. You would expect three fourths the litter to have short hair. That is just what you have.

This is a wonderful question. I love it when people actually think about canine genetics when choosing breeding pairs. Good job.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Hh and Hh

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

this means that ether the mom or dad's parents had long hair%26gt;

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Both parents are Ss.

EDIT: Hey! We're not doing your homework for you, are we?

Statistically speaking, out of the 8 puppies:

2 would be SS (short haired)

4 would be Ss (short haired)

and 2 would be ss (long haired)

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

S= short haired s= long haired

the genotypes of the parents are both Ss because only two recessive can produce a recessive offspring and neither can be completely recessive or more of the pups would be recessive.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Hh and Hh

if H= short hair and h= long hair

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Both parents are heterozygous for the trait causing hair length - Hh and Hh or Ll and Ll whatever letters you choose.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

both must have a recessive gene for long hair. otherwise upon splitting of DNA, half of the puppies genes would always have the dominant short hair trait and be born with short hair.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Just like human hair, both parents might have brown hair (the most dominant gene) but the child's hair color could be red which she inherited from their grandmother. Genes are all the same when it comes to humans and dogs. You new puppies grandparents or great-grandparent may have been long-haired. Have a super time with the now ones! :)

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

I have never seen someone run in such a high negative score. You sure take the cake for that one.

3.In dogs, short hair is dominant over long hair. Two short-haired dogs are the parents of a litter of eight?

Each of the parents had a recessive (not dominate) gene for long hair.

The each long hair puppy received a recessive long hair gene from each parent. Thus the recessive gene rules.

dominate gene + dominate gene = Dominate gene

dominate gene + recessive gene = Dominate gene

recessive gene + recessive gene = recessive gene

Hope this helps.

Dog vs cats?

what is better dog or cats i meen dog are da boom but cats are just plane [dumb] but dog are nice and dont throw [HAIR BALLS] THOUSE are frekin nasty i mean am i right or wat so u tell me what do u like better dogs or cats?

Dog vs cats?

100% DOGS

Dog vs cats?

The fourth or fifth best day for me when I was exiled to Alabama was when the cat died.

Dog vs cats?

Well, I have 2 cats and 1 dog. While I do agree with you that it is nasty when cats have hairballs, but saying that they are dumb just proves that you like dogs better. I love my cats a lot, but i also love my dog. It just depends on personal preference.

Dog vs cats?

DOGSS RULE@!

Dog vs cats?

I like dogs better... I think you need an English class really badly!

Dog vs cats?

I love dogs. Cats have too much attitude for me.

Dog vs cats?

Dogs all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!

Dog vs cats?

If you have the room and time to pick up dog rockets Bow Wow. If not get a cat.

Dog vs cats?

i think if u really like animals then u wont be all judgemental. i mean how crudy is dat man.

Dog vs cats?

No dogs do not throw hair balls, they just shed all over everything. I like both. I have had dogs and cats at the same time and usually the cats let the dog know right away who is the boss. Wouldn't pick one over the other as each has its better qualities.

Dog vs cats?

1000000000000000000000000000000000000000...

CATS

Dog vs cats?

As an avid animal lover and someone who grew up on a farm full of critters, I love them all but cats are not a guys pet in my opinion they are a chick pet.....with that said

Dogs rule!

Dogs dogs dogs!!! I will never ever have another cat been there done that have lots of t-shirts to prove it.

Dogs are the only way to go! I will have at least 1 or 2 dogs till the day I dye. (have 2 now black lab and black n white blue tick beagle)

Dog vs cats?

I love both...i can't choose between them

Dog vs cats?

I love both the same. I can't choose. I have one dog and two cats.

I love my cats because they are silly, ALWAYS make me laugh, and they will sit on my lap and keep me company. My cats also sleep with me. They greet me at the door, they love to cuddle, and I can pick them up and carry them. But I mostly love them because they are so silly, and ALWAYS make me laugh. My siamese mix jumps up on my boyfriends shoulders when he gets out of the shower and starts 'styling' his hair.

I love my pit bull because she also greets me at the door. I love taking her for walks. I love teaching her new tricks. She is always by my side. She is big so she can play rough. I can take her to the park with me, or to our cottage where she can swim and go on the boat. And even though she is a big mush, just the fact that she looks tough can protect me.

But I think the combination of the two is the best. When my dog and cats play together it is so cute, and very entertaining to watch. My cat will chase my dogs tail, my dog gets confused, then starts chasing her own tail. I will never be able to choose between dogs and cats.

Dog vs cats?

閳?0 50 I like both cats and dogs閳?br>Dog vs cats?

i like em both but i prefer cats all the way..hairballs...hmm well if u provide them with the right food and offer catgrass..there shouldn`t be as much problems. My cats hairballs dont bother me at all its also rare that she pukes cuz i take care of hair and brish hair. Cats arent dumb ...they are very independant creatures and i like the fact not to walk in the rain at 6 am in the morning cuz the doggy has to "go"its a personal decision and u will always find a DUMB dog or a DUMB cat as well as DUMB humans...it happens ;)

Dog vs cats?

I love them both they are smart in diffrent ways .

Has anybody ever had problems with dogs losing large amounts of hair after using capstar??

I have had it happen to my belgian shepherd and I know of one other dog which was a german shepherd with the same problem.....will be interested to see if anyone else has the same problem....Cheers Kez.

Has anybody ever had problems with dogs losing large amounts of hair after using capstar??

I have not had this problem, although my use of Capstar was limited. (I now use Revolution) Sounds like what you observed was a very severe reaction to that particular medication, indicating that you should not use it again on that dog.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

Ok, Ive had it with cloth sofas and dog hair. I was wondering if I bought a leather set would it be easier to keep clean? My dogs are not allowed on the couches but, you know they get up there when no human is home. My dogs range from 209 to 9 lbs. Do you think trimmed nails would be a problem? Anyone else ever try this?

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I have 5 Great Danes.

Leather is the only way to go, however, being 'leather' it doesn't take long for one of them to decide they are OK to chew on. It is incredible how fast a leather couch can disappear with a big dog. None of our dogs have been big chewers, even as puppies. All are crate trained and put away if we are gone for any length of time.

Our last couch was fine for months. When I jumped in the shower one day and came back out the couch was destroyed. I don't even know which one did it, but I have my suspicions. We never had that problem with a cloth couch. We stopped using cloth because of dog smell and hair.

We keep our dogs nails dremmled so we have not had that problem of scratching.

Leather is really easy to clean. Also with cloth furniture, when you are used to your own dogs, you don't notice how much your house smells like dog because the dog that is not allowed on the furniture get on there when you are not looking. Your guests notice.

With indoor dogs, leather furniture if possible, no carpet if possible. The house is easier to clean and will always smell better.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

Good morning :)

My girl is sleeping next to me on a leather sofa right now :)

What I dislike is that when she is wet, staying on a leather doesn't help with her skin problems, so I have to watch it.

Have a great day!

P.S. She is a large dog.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

Alright, no leather sofa here, but my van has a leather interior and I can say I have found that much easier to clean than fabric. You can wipe/brush away hair on leather, where fabric I swear it bonds with it! So I would think leather would be much easier. I think freshly trimmed nails "could" leave "scratches" but if you are using a dremmel to sand down the rough fresh cut edges, it should be fine.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I have a Leather Couch and Chair in the family room. Same thing, the dogs aren't "Allowed" on the couch, but the older one will sneak up if he knows nobody is watching and the young one occasionally has what we call "The Aussie Spaz" moment where he'll jump up.

They're a LOT easier to clean, but they do scratch....

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I LOVE my leather sofa. I have 2 dogs, a shih tzu and an english mastiff, and while my big guy doesn't get up on the couch, you know his hair and slobber get everywhere! The leather is SO much easier to clean. We have some leather wipes that we just wipe it down with and it stays beautiful and I dont have to worry about stains or smells on the sofa. I wouldn't even buy cloth again.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

There is people furniture, and there is pet furniture.

Do you let your pet onto your bed?

If so, you fail to see the relevance of the statement above.

Love can be shared without sacrificing comfort, you just need to set boundaries. Otherwise, you must accept the challenges you will face (either the hair, the slobber, or the damaged furniture).

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

My dogs range from 60 pounds to 8 pounds! I had the same problem, and the aussie left so much hair in the furniture it took me hours to get it out! We finally went and got leather for the family room, and it is wonderful! If you get a good quality thick leather, you don't even get nail scratches! And the hair just falls off. I will never go back to fabric again!

Stains are easy to wipe off as well.

Next we need to talk about carpet...

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

As long as you get a good leather it should be fine, I have a German Shepherd, who isn't allowed on the furniture, but is very pawy when he wants attention! He hasn't even scratched it.

As for chewing there is a spray you can get that dogs don't like the scent of, so it should stop them. I think one is called Johnsons Anti-Chew

They are also very easy to clean!

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I don't have leather furniture....but a friend of mine does. She has two big dogs..a lab and a golden. I think you will like the leather furniture better because it is easier to clean (however, I wouldn't get a light color...my friend used to have creme colored leather furniture and it got pretty dirty looking...now she has brown leather furniture) I think the nails could be a problem scratching the leather....maybe grinding the nails could help with the sharpness? Anyway....Good luck with what you decide.....I have a cloth couch too.....but I just make sure a blanket is over it at all times...my dogs always get on the couch!

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

We currently have 3 dogs - 1 pointer mix, 1 pom and 1 dachshund AND leather furniture. When we are in the room with them, they are all sweet little darlings who behave perfectly. When we are NOT in the room, they "dig" on the furniture, lick and slobber all over it and as a result they have split 3 seams on the cushions (and trust me when I tell you this was so definitely NOT cheap furniture). The licking and slobbering leaves nasty stains and I have not even mentioned the hair. Yes, on the surface it is easier to clean the hair off and most of the "yuk" comes off with leather cleaner so you get the appearance of clean furniture. But, when you take the cushions off you will find a big blanket of doggie hair that is so hard to clean off, it gets down in all the crevices and ... well, you get the picture. The fact is - no matter what furniture you have, you are going to have a bit of a mess with dogs. It's a fact of life for those of us who can't live without the little buggers :-)

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

After our family room got extended, we went out and bought a leather sofa and chairs. I have a weim, a french mastiff, and that god awful shihtzu I can't pay anyone to take off my hands. We do have to blockade the area cause the weim is very shifty and in her old age has a little bit of a urine dribbling problem. I went to far as to get the more rustic looking stuff so the scratches wouldn't be so evident (just part of the patina dear) and I must say, the stuff has held up much better than the old cloth garbage- mastiff spit cleans right off, doesn't have that dingy discoloration across the areas where the dogs lean against it, etc. Probably smells like dogs but definitely doesn't suck up odor like the old stuff.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

It is actully sappost to be the best kind of furniture for pet owners! easest to clean and easest for hair removale good choice and good luck!

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

Ok I have a load of dogs mine now range from 7weeks - 6 yrs and about 10 lbs to 180 I have a leather sofa set and I think it is great because it is easy to clean as for the nails when I trim thier nails I have learnt to soften the cut area with a nail file this stops them from cutting in to any furniture

No my dogs are not "Allowed" on the couch but as you know you can not watch 24/7 so yes when they get excited sometimes I will catch a puppy or two on the couch LOL

GOOD LUCK

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

Don't do leather. That was the biggest mistake I have ever made. I bought a "scratch resistant" sofa set and scratchless, my rear end. The dogs manage to scratch it quite easily.

I bought a Microsuede set for the living room, and that is 9000 times better. It doesn't stain, doesn't scratch and any hair vacuums up very quickly, much quicker and easier than vacuuming cloth, and you still have to vacuum leather as well because the hair gets in the nooks and crannies, so it is just as fast a clean up as leather. We tested the stain resistant quality of the microsuede by pooring coffe on it and it wiped right up. It didn't even look wet! I would go Microsuede before leather.

Oh, and microsuede is not near as expensive, so that is a bonus. I spent a fortune on my leather furniture and my microsuede was half the price.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I have cloth, my ex has leather. I gave him a rescue pit bull (10 mo). . . . the dog LOVED the couch.... the cushions were delicious....

his nails showed scratching, and drool shows up...doesn't come out...

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I don't, but I know people who do have very thick leather couches / chairs etc. It stands up very well.

Anyone have leather furniture and a large dog?

I've got a greyhound (34kg - I think that's 75lbs) and a leather sofa.

Easier to keep clean? Yes, although we've had the sofa longer than we've had the dog, so I couldn't compare with a non-leather sofa for definite - ie what you'd be losing by changing from a fabric one.

There are scratch-marks on the sofa and they are very visible. As long as you're happy to put up with that, they're great. The leather one certainly holds less dust than a fabric one, and we don't have problems with hair on the sofa. On the carpet is another story...

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

My wife and I have a miniature rat terrior she is and always will be an inside dog. She sheds so much and none of the shampoos work! Anything else I can do so my house is not covered in dog hair?

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

My mom bought a shedding tool for her dog, lkike this one

http://www.petco.com/product/14270/JW-Pe...

I couldn't believe how much dead hair it removed... I'm going to get one for my dogs, too :)

Try it!

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

All dogs shed, nothing we can do about it. Unfortunately, there is no majic solution to it. No shampoo will help either. Sorry...

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

you may be able to find something at you r local pet store to stop or slow it down besides that i don't think there is anything you can do for it

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

there is nothing you can do about it.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

it takes some time but brushing or combing.. lots of outdoor petting.. nothing you can do to stop it..

Don't waste anymore money on a magic remedy , they are just stealing from you.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Quit bathing her all the time. Feed a better quality dog food and add Omega 3 oils to her diet.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Shave her. Or just learn to live with it.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

You apparently didn't research the breed before getting it. Dogs shed; there's nothing you can do to change this. Your best bet is to vacuum more frequently. It's a pain, but welcome to dog ownership.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Assuming she does not have some type of illness or skin condition that is causing her to drop her coat, there's not much to keep her from shedding. We try to brush our dogs outside everyday and leave them a little time to shake off the loose hair so it doesn't all fall in the house. Have also got a shedding blade in our grooming basket, works wonders to get all the loose hairs off. If you are washing her too often, you may be drying her skin out and causing more harm than good.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Sometimes switching to a better quality food can help. Look for something with human grade ingredients and no fillers (like corn).

Beside that, daily brushing will keep much of the hair on the brush and off other things.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Do not over bathe your dog. That increases shedding. Once a month is plenty (unless he gets dirty).

Brushing daily helps.

A good diet helps even more.

Dogs shed. It's just a fact of life. You get used to it and do what you can to minimize it.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

A postal employee told me about a brush she bought online and said it STOPPED shedding of her dog completely. She said she went from vacuuming twice a week to twice a month! I have 3 large, long haired dogs and a cat, so although it was expensive, I put the money down and tried this miracle brush. It is amazing, it was worth every cent (it costs me $48 for each dog to go to the groomers) and has changed everything! I wish I had this brush years ago! It really does get rid of all the undercoating - my dogs all look healthier with shiny smooth coats, and best of all, barely any hair in the house now! I love this brush! It sounded too good to be true, but it wasn't, I am so happy to say. It's called Furminator and I got mine on ebay but they are also on amazon and lots of websites. Also, I personally bathe my dogs once a month and rinse them off in apple cider vinegar (then do not rinse that off, as it is great for the dry skin and coat). Between those 2 suggestions, you should be set with your dog!

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

You can't stop a dog from shedding, but with proper coat care you can keep it under control.

There are a few products out there that you can add to their food that is supposed to help with shedding. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is a product called Linatone.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Nothing can stop the dog from shedding dogs shed naturally. They are getting rid of extra fur. The only thing I know of that can slow down shedding is brushing it once or twice a day.

How do you stop a dog from shedding? Or at least slow it down?

Try putting a little flax seed oil in the food. That was recommended by my vet and it did work. Nothing will stop shedding but you can reduce it by the flax seed oil, using a anti-shed shampoo and regular brushing.

Dog biting problem?

my dog has scabs amd is losing hair... i noticed he is biting himself.i have another dog who lives in the same conditions as he is and does not bite himself or have the scabs or losing hair.the spots are red and all over his belly and genitals and he is biting the hair off of his tail.he is a pomeranian.he also has places with brown scabing rings where he loses the hair..do you know what this could be or what i should use to clear him up...im currently using sulfodene..

Dog biting problem?

It can be any number of things, but letting git continue to get worse may actually cause more problems to develop. Although we can give you an idea, what will have to happen is the vet will need to do a skin scraping or even blood test to find out the real problem.

Dog biting problem?

Take them both to the vet. He could have allergies, mites, ringworm or any number of other things. The vet can tell you what it is and how to get rid of it.

Dog biting problem?

It sounds like it's most likely ring worm, a bacteria that forms in circles on your skin, although it may just be allergies. Anyway you look at it you should take your pup in to make double sure it's not mange. The vet will probably give you a medicated shampoo, such as sebozile, and have you bathe the pup every 3 days. Make sure you're leaving the shampoo on for the reccomended ammount of time (usually 10 minutes) so that it can work, and give it a few weeks. Hope he gets better soon!

Dog biting problem?

my dog has those nasty scabs and he took a medicine i belive it was some type of allergi or thyroid im not sure tho hope i could help

Dog biting problem?

This could be a type of ringworm if so he needs to be taken to a vet to get it cleared up, or a staff infection, One flea and some are severely allergic and they will practically pull their hair out(flea bites can last up to 10-14 days like mosquito's) Also allergies. Did you have him groomed recently? I am a groomer and no I have not done this but I have heard of groomers not cooling off the blades that they are using and rashing the dog (especially in the genital area. This is very irritating to me by the way I don't understand why they can be so careless sometimes I treat every one of my customers dogs like they were my own. Oh Sorry anyhow it could be several possibilities but he could definitely benefit from a cortisone shot. Good Luck!!

Dog biting problem?

allergies maybe, try bathing him in an oatmeal bath or using a dog shampoo with oatmeal. this should help ease his skin irritants, other than that call or take ur dog to the vet. they'll be able to help u out better~good luck

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

How big will he get?

is it hard to housebreak him?

what kind of food shall i feed him?

how soon should i take him to the vet after i get him, after that then how often?

can I carry him around?

which places are/are not appropiate for dogs?(e.g. markets,hair salons,shoe stores,malls etc.

can I feed him table food?

I really need help if someone can answer these questions who know what they are talking about please improvise thanks

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

Poms range anywhere from 3 lbs to 7 lbs. Although there are some poms that can get to be around 12 lbs. If you can go back at least 4-5 generations and all have been small you can almost bet your pom will be small. If there are any larger poms in these generations you may get a pom that weighs more.

All of our poms were very easy to house break, we took them outside every 1/2 hour to 1 hour. I know it is a lot, but they were all house broke by the time they were 3 to 3 1/2 months old. Tell them "potty time" or "Lets go potty" every time you take them out. Soon they will associate the words with going potty. It just depends on how much time you have to spend with your pom. If you do catch them going in the house point your finger at him and give him a firm NO! and take him outside. You must do this only when you catch him in the act. If you find a spot later it is not going to do any good to scold him. Make sure you clean the area very well. Never hit your pom.

We feed our poms Nutro small chunks and Royal Canin.

If you are getting your pup from a breeder, your pup should already have his first 2-3 rounds of vaccinations ( depends on how old you pup is) and his wormings. You will get a health record when purchasing your pup. You should always make an appointment as soon as you get your pet for a check up. Most breeders in their contract say that you should take your pup to the vet with in 72 hours, if anything would be wrong then the breeder can make it right if it was due to something on their part. If you do not make that appointment and something should occure that was due to the breeders part, you will be out of luck as you did not take the pup for a check up in the alotted time..

When your pup is 3 months of age it will need to have it's rabie vaccination . That vaccination will be good for only 1 year. After that year is up you will need to take him back for another rabie vaccine. That one will be good for either 2 yrs or 3 yrs, depends on which vaccination the vets use,. Most are 3 yr, but some still use the 2 yr.

You can carry him around some, but best to let them have some exercise. When carrying your pom make sure you are not squeezing him or that he can jump from your arms and get hurt. Do not leave him on couches or chairs when he can jump off and get hurt. They have very small bones and can break easily.

You know you should never take any pet into markets, salons etc. It is ok to take them to their groomers, vets, walks, parks (proving their vaccinations are UTD). Places like PetCo let pets in their stores. Most are pretty much limited. Keep them away from fairs, stock car races and any Fourth of July outings etc... where there are fireworks or loud noises.

We do not feed our poms table scraps.

Edit: I believe the person above me is talking about American, English and Australian clubs and pedigrees.

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

You need to get to a library and get a book on Pomeranians before you go out and buy one.

And check out www.petfinder.com - there are so many pets that NEED homes!

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

1. Poms don't get very big.

2. It is difficult to housebreak them, but not impossible. (Females are easier to train than males)

3. I feed mine Kibbles and Bits.

4. You should take him to the vet soon after you get him, and maybe 2-4 times a year afterwards.

5. Of course you can carry him around. :)

6. Most places won't allow pets, but there are some select places that let you take them in as long as you hold them.

7. I personally would not feed them table food, because it is near impossible getting them to eat regular dog food afterwards.

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

he will get to be about 15 lbs unless he's a toy breed...it's only as hard to housebreak an animal as the owner makes it...if you are careful to take it outdoors each time it wakes or right after eating, it won't take long for him to know what going outside means...you can feed any kind of food for puppies or you can make your own dog food from ingredients listed on any package of dog food...only you won't add the preservatives and it will be much better for your dog and it will be almost like eating people food to you, but made especially for him...it's easy, and more like making a meal for your family...the puppy should have already had a vet visit for its 1st shots...and after that, the vet will suggest how often to visit...he/she will know if your dog has any reasons to be seen more or less often than regular visits...of course you can carry him around...but it's best to leave him home if you're going shopping...it can get too hot/cold when left in a car and not all places allow animals inside...if you're only going to a store like petco or petsmart where animals are allowed in for sure, then you could take him along...otherwise, it's best to train him to stay at home...if he does damage to your things, get a crate and train him that he stays in it while you're not home...it's not a mean thing to do and it saves you the worry about what you might find destroyed when you get back home...good luck...

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

Shouldn't be more than 10 pounds.

Take him to the vet within a week. Healthy dogs usually just get a once a year checkup.

You can carry him...but dogs like to run around and be dogs-even the tiny ones. You don't want to run and pick him up every time he seems upset though-it will only reinforce bad behaviors and may cause him to develop separation anxiety.

Most places don't allow any animals except service dogs. Pet stores are almost always the exception.

He can be allowed a table scrap here and there depending on what it is. For his own food, you can find something formulated for small breeds, or says "small bites". Choose puppy, adult, or senior food accordingly.

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

I think you should have done more research on the Pom's before you buy one!!!!!!

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

hi there I own a Aust Pom are you getting a Aust Pom, American Pom or a English Pom

here is some info

Breed Group: Toy

Weight: 3-7 lbs

Height: 8-11 inches

Color(s): all colors and patterns allowed

Coat: The Pomeranians long double coat requires brushing at least once weekly. It is important to lift and part the top coat and brush the cottony undercoat as well. This will reduce shedding. Frequent brushing can damage the coat.

Overview: The Pomeranian is lively and eager to learn. They get along well with other household pets if given a slow and proper introduction. They make wonderful companions for families with older, well-behaved children and the elderly.

Character: The Pomeranian is a compact, active toy breed. They are intelligent, extremely loyal to their family, and loving. They are eager to please, gentle, and affectionate. They also exhibit an inquisitive expression and curiosity.

Temperament: The Pomeranian is confident, commanding, and outgoing. Due to the Pomeranians small stature they are not recommended for homes with small children as they may become temperamental. They make excellent guard dogs and will sound a bark when they sense danger.

Care: In addition to grooming it is important for Pomeranians to receive excellent dental care. They are prone to tooth loss; so regular cleaning is a must. Dry food is recommended to aid in keeping teeth and gums healthy.

Training: Pomeranians respond best to firm commands and are quick to learn. They are easily trained in obedience. Their barking must be controlled or they will do so incessantly. They may be difficult in housebreaking, but with consistency and praise do very well either going outside or in a litter box.

Activity: The Pomeranian requires short walks and play time with other pets and family. They have the capability to learn tricks if done with patience and time. They may become bored if they are not given enough to do. They are excellent for apartment living and homes with small yards.

Ownership: If you are looking for Pomeranian puppies for sale from reputable Pomeranian breeders or to adopt a Pomeranian from a Pomeranian rescue then make sure you understand as much about the dog breeds you are interested in as you can. Every puppy breed is different. Begin your research by reading the breed information about the Pomeranian puppy above.

The Dog I am getting is a Pomeranian?

It reads as if you know nothing about dogs for starters or most of your questions would have been answered. How old are you? Is someone going to be home all day and evening?Poms need lots of exercise. Mine happens to like to play outside with a careful eye from "Mom". If you are "thinking" of getting a Pom from a pet store, DON'T! Poms can have many genetic problems. If you don't know the history of that puppy you could be buying a lot of Trouble. I feed Pedigree Puppy dry. One needs to be VERY careful about Pom's food or you will have an additional vet bill. Poms have very delicate digestive systems. Mine gets a tiny bite of cheese on occasion for praise as well as verbal praise all the time. A squirt bottle of pure, clean water works wonders. Mine also loves Dingos and Greenies and Puppy Milk Bones. She gets NOTHING that has sugar in it. Poms are very proud and strong willed. You will even need to be more so. Around 3 mos. you will need to get into "Puppy Socialization". Then an Obedience training. Poms have no idea they are little dogs. They believe they are big dogs. I would suspect your local humane society or dog pound will have a very nice dog to be adopted and you will actually be doing a great favor to the dog world

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

I was running around cleaning my puppy's muddy footprints off the tiles and vacuuming her hair off the furniture ... and the dog was just lying there dozing and watching me through half-open eyes ... and I thought ... "How about you work for your living for once, you lazy lump?!!"

I reckon it would be good if I could hitch her up to the vacuum cleaner and train her to pull it round the house. 10 points to anyone who comes up with a better idea (then I'll patent it and get rich, lol!).

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

Ha ha ha this is a GREAT question! I especially think this when I'm once again vacuuming up all the hair my 100 lb Newf/Lab sheds on the carpet.

I think I most hate washing the dishes. But could I really trust my dog to WASH them as opposed to just licking them and sticking them in the cabinet?? Vacumming it is then. Maybe half the time he could vacuum the floors and the rest of the time vacuum himself so less hair makes it to the floors lol

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

Especially funny when you consider my dog's a BOY dog lol Report It

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

If i could train my dog tofeed itself because i always have to get up and feed it....

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

I wish they could pick up their own poop, and clean the carpet when they decide to vomit there rather than on the tile.

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

well i dont want to give any work for my puppy..........hes already given me lots n lots luv as of a brother ........i am far more better than being rich...........u r too.................hip hip hurrah for all the dogs in the world!!!!

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

vaccuum up his hair that is everywhere

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

i wish my dog had the skill to clean up after herself, hair, poop, the whole package.my dog would probably get mad at the vaccum cleaner and break it. i would not try it

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

I would give my dogs the worst job of all, to put up with me no matter what kind of a mood I'm in or what I happen to look like that day. They would have to not only have their tails wagging, but the whole body wag whenever they came in contact with me. If I felt sad they would need to come up and rest their heads on me for comfort, if I became scared they would need to protect me....wait a second

My dogs already do their jobs and quite well I might add :)

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

SORT THE WHITES WHEN I DO LAUNDRY. I HATE SORTING SOX.

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

I used to know some people who owned a little country store that had a bar. They had a really smart dog (Australian Shepherd) and she learned how to pick up beer cans out of the parking lot for them.

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

i would get them (i have to take care of 4!) to feed and water themselves and also get them smart enough to not tangle themselves up in their chains!!! (my dogs arent allowed in the house...theyre all kelpie x's!!!) and if theyre smart enough not to tangle themselves up, maybe they would be smart enough to train themselves, too!!!

If you could train your dog to do housework, what one task would you make him/her do?

my dog actually picks up after the family he is a brittany spanial .(well sort of)picks up ) if you give him a dirty plate he will bring it to the kitchen and if you give him a paper plate he'll bring it to the trash. it didtn take him long to learn he caught on really quickly. but if he could do a chore i would want him to pick up hiss poop. see how he likes it

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

iv got a 5 month old chocolate lab i give her 1 carrot every day as iv herd its good for there teeth , what other vegi's or fruits could i give her that wont harm her in anyway . also iv notic that my lab has got hair missing on her ear just on the edge and all it looks like is a white stripe

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

Frozen sprouts are good, as you can turn it into a game. Also, putting peas into there food is also good.

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

I can just imagine walking into your house after your dogs been on brussel sprouts phew!

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

take to vet - it will cost - but if you can afford to buy a `thoroughbred` lab then you can afford to give her proper

treatment.

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

Our german shepherds used to like all vegetables - as I was preparing our meal - I would give them whatever vegetable I was preparing - favourites were carrots, brussel sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower - all raw.

My friend has always added a few cooked vegetables into their dogs tea (again whatever they are having for their evening meal )

Don't think you can go wrong with a few veggies a day - they are supposed to keep the coat in good condition

As for fruits - mine always loved an apple or pear

I have recently had a puppy and was given a list by the breeder to say that raisins are toxic for dogs and can cause kidney failure

Hope this helps

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

Practically any raw veg (and fruit) is good for dogs. It's better chopped up in a food processer as they can't get all the goodness out when fed whole. Evcerything should be in moderation of course. Sprouts and cabbage have the same effect on dogs as they do on humans!

Google for BARF (bones %26amp; raw food) and you'll get plenty of ideas.

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

veggies are good for dogs, and raw is best. my rhodesian likes her veggies cooked, my mastiff raw. i do a little of each, along with sweet potatos, cottage cheese, and for a treat, some shredded cheese. the carrots, green beans, and avocado are my dogs favorites. for the bald spot..check with the vet, but i will say maybe add some fish oil to the diet.

Vegi's for dogs and human food? also hair loss?

all our german shepherds love carrots, cauli and swede, raw or cooked. They will not eat sprouts, just play with them until there is so much mess you have to take them away from the dogs or spend hours peeling bits of sprout from the floor, walls, and picking it out of their fur etc. Our vet recommends raw veg rather than commercial dental chews to keep teeth clean. I had a mongrel when I was a child and she used to pick blackberries from the bushes a lot like a fox would do in the wild. Apples are fine too.

as for the hair on her ear speak to your vet at her 6 month check, or if you notice her scratching or rubbing at her ear, go sooner.

it could be loose hair if her ears are fluffy, we have to 'pluck' the loose hair from our long haired dog as he moults there as much as anywhere alse.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

I'm not really a lap dog sort of person and would prefer not to have loads of dog hair all over the place. Constant BARKING is a no no.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Shiba Inu, Medium size, do not shed, they conform to the amount of exercise their own does, and not a yappy dog. Very stubborn and more difficult to train, obedience school is best. Also, if you have the space, believe it or not great danes are apartment animals.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

the small dog the best because it will be more easlyer to take care of. Report It

Pitties don't shed... much. As long as you are dedicated to walking *at least* 2X a day... good long walks, a pittie is a great dog! They are very loyal and loving, mine doesn't bark much.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

yeah but pitties are known to be chewers, they chew everything in site! why dont you get a little westie or yorkie

oh oh get a pony!!!! I always wanted a pony.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Why don't you go to your nearest animal rescue centre, somewhere like NCDL or the RSPCA, they have loads of dogs wanting homes and you would get a good idea from what type of dog would be best for you by going to places like that too, rescue dogs are wonderful and make wonderful pets, maybe one that is a few years old and is used to be left on its own occasionally so it won't be barking all the time, good luck hope you find a lovely dog for yourself soon.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

I have a daschund and my husband and I both love her. She hardly sheds. She is paper-trained so walking isnt necessary for her, unless its for fun. We live in a smaller townhouse and she just has access to the downstairs which is fine for her...being so little, she doesnt mind. She only barks when she needs attention. Hope this helps!

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Border Terrier, full of character and determination, very, very loyal and don't yap, and are wonderful with kids. They do NOT SHED HAIR (they need stripping once a year). Get one and you'll never regret it.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

no big dogs,no barking,no hair!jeez, buy a handbag.you can put your lunch in it and bring it to the park

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Any dog that you truly love. All I ask is that you adopt one from a shelter. Adopt a dog that is looking for a new and loving home for the rest of his or her life. That animal is in the shelter for a reason, and you could be the person who gives that little creature a brand new lease on life. I can only hope you will choose from shelter animals. Otherwise, enjoy your new companion! - Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old, and have seen the faces of the dogs in shelters waiting for their new homes.)

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Is it a dog you relay want? The only dogs that don't moult (loose hair) are poodles and Yorkshire terriers, but both can tend to yap a lot. You could try a greyhound, they do moult, but they only need too be taken for a walk once a day, as they tend to be a "couch potato" in other words tend to like to lay on there own bed most of the time. Of course as with any dog they need to be taken out to do there "toilet". You don't say if you have a ground floor flat, or whether your flat is on higher level.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Any Dog is gonna demand you attention by barking, or just

'talking'..if you have from a puppy... (its like having a new

baby !!) you can bring it up your own way, A smooth coated Jack Russell are most intelligent, but, unless you can committe

to walking 2 to 3 times per day, why not get a .cat, rabbit, gerbal,

Canary, Budgie, Parrot.....please think... any animal who are

used to be confined...could be good for you !!!

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

a toy poodle or king charles spaniel.or jordan!!!!

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

I would think very carefully about getting a dog and confining it to a flat.Dogs are pack animals and need to have company of either other dogs or it's new pack.i.e: humans. It is not good to keep them locked up alone all day as they need to be constantly socialised and taught where their status in the pack hierarchy is.Constant barking is usually a symptom of loneliness,I amm nearly 60 and have had dogs all my life, the problem with dogs is that they have a very short life span and when they pass away it is like losing a member of your family.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

go for a small dog

i.e. dachshunds, chihuahuas, poodles, terriers, or cocker spaniels

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Lets see if I have this right:

Exercise - walks in park

Not long haired (shedding)

Not a yapper

Not a climb on top of you dog -just hang with you

Basset Hound

Australian Terrier

Cairn Terrier

Norfolk Terrier

Norwich Terrier

Scottish Terrier

West Highland White Terrier

Pug

Boston Terrier

(English) Bulldog

French Bulldog

Schipperke

Cardigan Welsh Corgi

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

NOT any large breed or one that needs to romp and rip - pretty much all the sporting group, all of the working group, nearly all of the herdng group; virtually all of the hound group....leave out the ones with long hair and that list is what we have left

OH -and NEVER a Jack Russell - perpetual motion machines that never shut up and are an obedience trainer's 4 footed nightmare

http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm.

..You can search by Group, Breed name or all of them at once.

Now, when you click on the picture of the dog and go to the page for that breed, on the left is a column. At the bottom of the column, is a link captioned "National Breed Club". Click on it - that takes you to the link to the National Club for that breed that sets the breed standards.

The Clubs' websites will give you an ENORMOUS amount of information about the breed - the good, the bad, and the why or why not to get that breed. The clubs websites also have:

(1) a breeders list - all of whom have agreed to abide by the breeders code of ethics (which you can read)

(2) a link to the breed rescue for their breed

Do give serious thought to adopting from an adult from a breed rescue. The clubs' breed rescues go to a great deal of trouble to determine the dog's temperrment, personality, likes and dislikes (particularly kids and cats and other dogs in the household), health, and level of training. They make a huge effort to match the right dog to the right home - and if they don't have one they think will be suitable for your home, they won't place it. Great way to avoid the puppy training, newspapers, chewing.......They have dogs that are purebred and part-bred (1/2 or so of their breed.) Dogs that come through rescue are so thrilled to have a forever loving home having once been abandoned to a shelter or rescue that they are typically extra devoted and loving. Dogs lose their homes for reason that are not their fault: death, divorce, a move and they couldn閳ユ獩 keep them, financial problems閳?

If you decide to get a puppy , please use one of the breeders who are members of the breed club. A well-bred pet puppy may not be a candidate for the show ring (that nose being 1/8th of an inch to long or something else very picky) but they will be very healthy, the parents carefully screened for hereditary health problems, and from a breeder who has devoted a great deal of time to understanding the breed and bloodlines. A responsible breeder will have a written contract with a health guarantee for hereditary problems; require that if for any reason you ever have to give up the dog that it comes back to them; and always be available for help, assistance and advice about your dog. Such a breeder will tell you if they don't think their breed is right for you based upon your needs. They want a perfect forever home for the puppies - not the money. (In 43 years in the dog show world, I have never known a breeder of that caliber who has made a profit on their dogs - it is labor of love.)

A puppy from such a breeder costs no more - and often less - than from a backyard breeder who doesn't do the health checks, knows nothing about the breed or bloodlines, doesn't give a guarantee, never wants to hear about the puppy again and has breed from mediocre or poor quality dogs.

IF A SERIOUS BREEDER OR RESCUE TELLS YOU THAT THE BREED IS NOT SUITED FOR YOUR SITUATION - BELIEVE THEM - NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU LIKE THE WAY THE DOG LOOKS

Now once you know what the tendencies and traits of the breeds are, you are prepared to think about adopting a mixed breed. Now you know when they say "mastiff/collie" cross, what you are geting into. PLEASE consider adopting from your shelter. they make just as wonderful pets as those with a pedigree. They are often more loyal and bond more closely when they know that they can trust you not to leave them having already been abandoned and deserted in their lives, and thankful for a loving home. You can go to your local shelter.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

I agree with ann a . But what a lot of writing. I have 4 cockers, one of which is totally blind, they are so loyal and make fabulous companions

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

I too agree with ann b. Especially about breed rescue dogs. They are the best. I have 2 Boxers and would not trade them for all the money in Ft. Knox.

Good Luck.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

king chalers cavalier spaniels are lovely and two short walks and a game of ball each day will be great

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Well you will want a breed that does not demand constant attention and exercise.

I would suggest a bulldog, either French or English as they are generally loyal and calm animals, which don't bark much.

The latter has to be a big requirement for your circumstances- noisy breeds will get you in trouble so stay away from terriers and small, yappy toy breeds.

I would definitely suggest a bulldog but be prepared to pay alot of money for one. 鎷?000-1500 for a French and 鎷?500-2000 for an English.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Hi there,

I would recommend a Shih Tzu, they are definitely not lap dogs and have huge personalities. They don't require alot of exercise and don't shed loads of hair. I should know, I have one.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

Are you sure you wouldnt be better off with a goldfish?

Seriously. Dogs really arn't made to order. There are lots of breeds out there who may do this, or may do that, but you can never know until you are living with them. I can understand the want for a dog, but I am really not sure if you are in the best place, or if you are looking at what you can offer them, just what you dont want to have to deal with instead.

I had to wait 8 years to be in the right place to give a dog a secure happy home and have had her for a couple of months now.

My concern is if you get a dog now and they do not match up to your expectations, they will be another one for the dogs home and very traumatised as a result.

I would love to get a dog. I live in a flat with very easy acess to parks. Which dog would be best?

cocker spaniel? theyre not as hyper as springers in general. or how about a cross breed? theyre nearly always better than pure breds!
